  2. What is a debate? • Verbal contest where two teams argue against each other and try to KNOCK DOWN the other team’s argument. • The team that makes the best argument wins!

  3. Time to investigate.. Groups of THREE • Watch some sample debates (Two teachers 6:14, students 4:41) • Find out what the following roles are in debates: • Resolution • Affirmative team • Negative team • Rebuttal • Judge • Debate structure 20 minutes

  4. Key Definitions • Resolution - the statement • Affirmative team - the team that is for the argument • Negative team – team is against the argument in the debate • Rebuttal – one makes an argument and the other team says no you are wrong and this is why • Judge – person decides who wins the debate
