  6. Internal GIG Upgrades

  7. Internal GIG Upgrades On Monday, May 14th at 6 pm we moved 3 connections from 100 M to GIG Interfaces and sent an email stating : “In an effort to handle the high volume of Internet traffic between the hours of 10 am and 2 pm, we have moved internal connections from 100 Mb interfaces to 1000 Mb ( Gigabit ). We continue to monitor the Internal and External Bandwidth and will make further adjustments, as we seek to improve the overall efficiency. The current Internet connections are still 90 Mb with our YIPES ISP and 40 Mb with our SNIP ISP.” The secondary Fortinet Firewall remained at 100 M running as the Slave. On Saturday, May 19th, at midnight, Nortel 470 switches were replaced with Nortel 4548 switches to add GIG port density and upgrade the secondary Fortinet Firewall. Spanning Tree issues caused an Internet outage that was not resolved for most districts until 3 pm on Sunday. For Interboro and Ridley the Internet access was restored on Monday morning. Interboro had a bad GBIC and still has a secondary fiber issue that needs a follow-up visit during a maintenance window. Ridley was restored with a vlan port configuration change. One more Nortel 470 switch will be replaced with a 4548 switch and further Spanning Tree adjustments will be made during the summer while we perform Nortel 8600 software upgrades.
