  7. “The Tell-Tale Heart” Writing Assignment • Each paragraph must be 5-7 sentences • Expand upon your ideas—don’t just give me the surface thoughts!!! • Follow the break down that was given to you on your planning sheet • Paragraph 1: Summary of the story (just the main ideas) • Paragraph 2: reason 1 why he is crazy/innocent or sane/guilty • Paragraph 3: reason 2 why he is crazy/innocent or sane/guilty • Paragraph 4: reason 3 why he is crazy/innocent or sane/guilty

Writer’s Checklist: • All paragraphs are indented and have at least 5 sentences • All sentences start with a capital letter • All sentences end with punctuation (period, exclamation mark, question mark) • There are no run-on sentences or fragments • Commas are used correctly when needed • Words are spelled correctly • Thoughts are well organized and complete

  9. The narrator in “The Tell-Tale Heart” commits an unthinkable crime by murdering an old man. He admits his guilt and crime to police officers by saying: “I admit the deed!—tear up the planks!—here, here!—it is the beating of his hideous heart!” (51). By admitting his wrongdoing to the police officers he is proving that he is sane and should be held responsible for his actions. When using quotes from the story: • Always introduce quotes and make sure to explain them • Put the quotation in quotes • Include the page number at the end in parenthesis • Make sure your punctuation goes after the parenthesis

  11. Turning in Rough Drafts: • Staple your plan sheet on top of your rough draft and make sure your name is on it. • If you don’t turn in a rough draft during class today, I need it by the end of the day; otherwise, you won’t receive credit for your plan sheet or rough draft!!!

  14. After you finish star reading… • Read: “from The Book of Rock Stars” 56-59 and complete the assignment on MBC • Assignment is due by midnight on Friday!!!

  15. Next Week: • Monday—you’ll receive your rough drafts back with suggestions for improvement; we will start to type final drafts; I will go through “what it should look like” • Wednesday—Peer editing on the PC’s w/ feedback WKST • Thursday—Final Drafts Due—must be submitted on MBC

Use good descriptions/details. Throughout your description use good transition words: first, second, third, then, finally, after, before, etc.
