Understand, make inferences and draw conclusions about the varied structural patterns and features of literary nonfiction and provide evidence from text to support their understanding. Students are expected to analyze passages in well-known speeches for the author's use of literary devices and word and phrase choice (e.g., aphorisms, epigraphs) to appeal to the audience. • (14) Writing Process. Use elements of the writing process (planning, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing) to compose text. Receive books and other related materials (study guides, reading assignment) • 2. Relate prior knowledge to the new material • 3. Develop research skills • 4. Write to inform by developing and organizing facts to convey information • 5. Begin Writing Assignment #1 and the Nonfiction assignment Show students pictures of barrio life in a major city such as Los Angeles or Chicago.
