  1. Question 3 What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why ?

  2. The difference between Mainstream and Independent Film companies. There are several differences between mainstream and independent films. Mainstream films are of a high budget mainly Hollywood films , where are independent films are low budget and their more likely so be seen by a specific audience. When mainstream films are being advertised the are commercially based they would be in the cinemas for a period of time and then sold in the big shops like H.M.V, Blockbusters etc. They also have marketing campaigns that involve trailers, billboards, posters and large viral campaigns. On the other hand independent films are advertised on websites, viral marketing and their likely just to shown on T.V for instance bullet boy. Thought it may be debatable that bullet boy could fall into both criteria's it suits the independent film institution a lot more because the narrative drives the film and there isn't any spectacular special effects. With a mainstream film the budget allows them to have special fx and at times they can afford to crash expensive cars for the look they will be trying to get across. Examples of these institutions Mainstream : Universal, paramount, New line Independent : Pathe , Film 4 , Vertigo Film

  3. Which film company might be interested in your film and why ? Having looked at our thriller I think it would be more suitable for an independent film company as it is a low budget film. Our film doesn’t really need extreme special effects, it just need then narrative to hold it in place and the characters we have in the film really fit in with society because it a boy wearing a hoody and a kidnapping takes place. This is the sort of things that happen in films like Adulthood which is an independent film product. If it was to appeal to Mainstream industry , it would have a different twist to the thriller because I would involve more effects and it may loose the natural realism and look like a movie.

  4. The role of film festivals and award nominations Film festivals help up coming (independent ) film makers get noticed and publicise their work. These festivals will also promote their product, this will result in widening their audience. Events such as the Oscars have been promote the individuals and companies across the media even in newspapers. Award nominations get individual actors/directors etc. acknowledge for their excellence one well know organisation for this is the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. They stage up to “200 public events across the Uk and beyond”. If our film was to be premiered in a film festival It would expand our target audience as it may appeal to a lot more people, like was if we had a award , more people will notice the film for a greater result in sales and views.

  5. How I would use digital technologies such as social networks to promote and distribute our film and why? The reason for all of this promotions and distributions is so that your film can get seen and getting an audience big enough to watch your product and also get feedback so that your aware of what needs work on and what was good for your next production. Other resources are sites such as Google which is used regularly and in this way you can target people according to their previous searches. This type of technology has been proven to work as other sites such as YouTube show you what channels or videos they recommend as they will base it on the type of videos previously watched. The internet is a great key to unlock endless possibilities. If I was to use social networks such as Facebook I could potentially personally aim my advertisement to a certain audience. I could do things like make a Facebook page about the film and use that for promotional purposes. You get this a lot with advertisement for club events and every time they update you get a notification.
