  1. Physics issues: -- Stopping properties of pions and muons in Minerva detector This will be studied in the MICE EMR at RAL using stopping e/mu/pi of both signs -- Charge separation for electrons in Minerva – like detector (with lower density?) in magnetic field This can be studied in the MORPURGO magnet at CERN -- Charge separation in MIND-like detector This can be studied in a baby-MIND detector at CERN -- hadronic shower angular and transverse momentum resolution in TASD and MIND or LArg (tau detection in superbeam or high energy neutrino factory) this requires about 2m deep MIND (that is CDHS shower box) and 5m deep (?) TASD or LArg (!) in hadron test beam e.g. at CERN or Fermilab How many interaction lengths are needed?

  2. Fast detectors for magnetized near detectors in Superbeam, beta-beam, neutrino factory MICE calorimeter = 1m3 Accurate position resolution (mm)  triangular shaped scintillator bars Magnetic field  si-PMT readout First test in T9 beam at CERN – position resolution few mm Next step: test at CERN in Dipole magnet in H8  1.6m diameter. Variable density by spacing planes -- reconstruction of showering electrons -- stopping properties of pions and muons

  3. Collaboration The following institutes have expressed interest: Fermilab (A. Bross, J. Morfin, M. Sorel) Virginia (J. Nelson) CERN (For the test beam) (I. Efthymiopoulos) (for the siPM readout: P. Jarron et al) University of Geneva (A.Blondel, S. Bravar) Imperial College (D. Wark, K. Long, M. Wascko), RAL (A. Weber), Brunel (M. Ellis), Liverpool (C. Touramanis), Glasgow (P. Soler), UCL(J. Thomas) Valencia (A. Cervera) Sofia (R. Tsenov) INFN Como (M. Prest), Trieste(E. Valazza), Milano (Bonesini), LNF (Terranova), RomaI(Ludovici), RomaIII (Tortora) Bari (Radicioni) Padova (Mezzetto, Ladover), Milano(Bonesini) INO (N. Mondal) Y. Kudenko (INR Moscow) Annecy (Peissard, Descheneaux) Strasbourg (Dracos) LLR Palaiseau (M. Gonin)

  4. Dear Alain, I am writing this mail in connection to our earlier discussion regarding the possibility of using the INO magnet for a beam test at CERN during 2011. To begin with we can take a prototype INO ( Baby INO) to CERN test beam next year and first use the muon and pion beams. This can be followed up with the more broad based plan that you are having with FP7 proposal in Europe, where baby INO can participate also. Currently we are discussing within the INO community for such a possibility. We would very much like to know your views on this and if positive then we can have a detailed discussion at NUFACT10. Looking forward to your response. Regards.

  5. INO (Mondal)

  6. AIDA funding below expected to come in early 2011 obvious that we have a start … but also that we need to put something out of our own pockets!

  7. closure of CERN beams in 2012 forces us to recast program 2010 write proposal to CERN for use of test beam before Xmas 2011-Q1 kick off meeting 2011-Q3 first test with baby-INO but need muons of 1-2 GeV… 2012 construction and cosmic tests of TASD and MIND detectors 2013 fuller tests in NH
