  1. Different Types of Industrial Signs and Labels Industrial signs and labels come in a variety of functions and forms; however, they can be best categorized by their primary use. What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of the industrial labels and signs? Standard warning and caution signs that indicate risk. These types of signs and symbols represent one of the three hazard levels: Caution Signs– Such signs indicate the lowest hazard level, representing potentially dangerous situations that can lead to minor to moderate injury if not avoided. Warning Signs– They represent a hazard level that lies somewhere between danger and caution, representing a risk that can lead to death or serious injury if not avoided. Danger Signs– Such signs and labels indicate immediate hazards that can lead to death or injury if not avoided. Certainly, industrial labels and signs include far more than hazard levels. Listed below are some types of industrial safety labels and signs that outline the primary function of different types of signs however remember they are not mutually exclusive. In some cases, some types of signs can be used on other symbol types. Here are some other industrial labels and signs. General Safety Signs - Used for communicating important safety procedures and instructions, for example – medical equipment, practices, and rules for first aid, housekeeping, and sanitation. Admittance Signs– Such signs and labels indicate who is allowed to enter designated locations or areas. Admittance labels and signs are often used with other types of labels and signs. For instance, an admittance message might be included on a caution or warning sign.

  2. Biological Hazard Sign– These are used for indicating either the potential or actual presence of a biohazard, identifying objects such as containers, tools or equipment, that either could or are possible contaminated with dangerous agents that pose a potential or existing risk to the well-being of a person. Surround Shapes – Such shapes include hazard prohibition, alert, information, and mandatory actions. They are often used for quickly conveying the main purpose of a safety label or sign, whereas other elements give detailed information regarding the particular messages. The prohibition shape is needed for a sign that communicates or expresses prohibited actions. Usually, people recognized this shape as a circle, in either black or red color, with a diagonal slash. Notice Signs– They are used for communicating general information related to a machine, equipment, building, or area. These signs and labels indicate practices that are not related to personal injury. Safety Symbols – While safety signs and labels can stand alone on a sign, as long as they convey the message, they are used in conjunction with other types of signs for providing a pictorial depiction for accompanying written notifications and text. These signs include everything from prohibited or required actions to directions and consequences, along with the effects of interacting with hazards like chemical exposure. In addition, industrial signs and labels can be used in sequence for illustrating a sequence of events in a visual manner. Along with the above-slated types of signs and labels, luminescence is also considered an equally important element to industrial signs and labels. Depending on the use and requirements of a facility, signs, and labels can be used.
