  3. Archaea • Prokaryotes • Unicellular • Most are heterotrophs • Some autotrophs use chemosynthesis • DNA, ribosomes, cell wall • Cell wall does not contain peptidoglycan • Asexual & sexual reproduction

Types of Archaea • Heat-loving • Live in hot, acidic environments – hot springs, thermal vents, around volcanoes • Salt-loving • Live in salty environments – salt lakes, Dead Sea • Methane-making • Live in swamps and in human intestines • Use CO2 during respiration and expel methane gas as waste

  5. Eubacteria • Prokaryotes • Unicellular • Most heterotrophs • Cyanobacteria photosynthesize • DNA, ribosomes, cell wall • Cell wall contains peptidoglycan • Asexual & sexual reproduction

  6. Shapes of Eubacteria • Cocci – sphere shaped • Bacilli – rod shaped • Spirilli – spiral shaped

Giant kelp, algae • Fungus-like • Heterotrophs – absorb nutrients from decaying organisms • Ex. Slime mold, water mold
