  1. Questions • What is evaluation? Purposes of accountability or as fundamental part of artistic practice? • Who is it for? Internal or external? • Pragmatic questions about type of project, size and scale. • Is a narrative of success always required, even predetermined by an application process/context? • Peer review – pros and cons but who is a peer group exactly? • What context or specific knowledges are required for appropriate or useful peer review? • Need to identify different kinds of communities and therefore different evaluative methods of each? • Is it possible to own the evaluation process through a concentration on artistic practice?

  2. More questions • When does or should evaluation take place? • What information/data do we capture and through what methods? • [social media, film and video, blogging, reflective logs and diaries – who produces this material and who filters or curates it and on what terms?] • How might social media also be a mechanism for maintaining, sustaining or enhancing the relationships that seemed to be so important to many of the projects presented?

  3. Even more • How is emotional response/affect/sensory response captured and evaluated? What should the balance of this material be in relation to metrics/statistics/data? • Quantative versus qualitative issues? • What is the significance of the rehearsal/making period as opposed to the moment of production? • Is the afterlife/’afterglow of a production relevant to evaluation methods and practices? Should it be (i.e. is this a case that should be made to funding bodies, policy makers)? • How long is an afterlife? Should a project necessarily have one?

  4. And finally • Is change a necessary impact of participatory or community arts projects? • Value of comparisons and cross-referring to existent evaluative material when designing projects and applications? How do we facilitate the networks that enable this? Is there a role for Higher Education institutions in this process? What might our resources, knowledges and competencies enable if anything at all?
