Advocacy and Systems • Individual advocacy = Establishing your advocacy relationship with the survivor. • Advocacy within systems = Working one on one with survivors as they navigate their way through various systems. • Systems advocacy = class action advocacy to improve how a system responds to all DV victims (e.g. work with CCRs).

  3. What do we mean by “system”? • Makes decisions and controls resources • Operates within the parameters of specific rules and procedures, written and unwritten • May have several loosely connected parts • Is run by people who are held responsible for following those rules

  4. What do we mean by “system”? • May or may not be organized in ways that meet the needs of survivors • Barriers in the system are not usually created by, or the fault of, individuals who work within the system : “It’s a glitch hunt — not a witch hunt.”
