Faculty comprises Leeds Dental Institute, School of Healthcare, School of Medicine and the Institute of Psychological Sciences • Over 6000 students: range of taught undergraduate and postgraduate programmes leading to registration and recordable qualifications • Non (HE)credit-bearing CPD events – expanding provision. • Integrate research with L&T; follow impact agenda

Practitioners may need evidence of CPD undertaken/training (points, certificates, portfolio entries). • Eg nurses: 35 hrs/3 years; dentists 250 hours/5 years (75 “verifiable” • Accreditation may be deciding factor for individual to attend or manager to release staff . • Will impact on degree of interest in the event… • …and possibly on potential chargeable fee!

  4. Royal College of Nursing • Nursing and Midwifery Council(the regulator) approves registration programmes, RCN (professional association) promotes education and learning. • Accredits CPD events including “fast-track” for study days, workshops. Single occurrence, or for a year for multiple events (and renewable). • Application: event details include target audience, ILOs, evidence-base, presenters’ qualifications. • 4 week process time.

  5. Managing Pain in Care Homes Care Homes’ Use of Medicines report (DH funded study), plus Symptom Management/LT Conditions group research on assessment and evaluation of pain • Focus on patient safety and quality in care homes; a recognised CPD need • 6 study hours accredited by RCN • £250 - one or two occurrences of identical events in 12 months (+ 200 certificates)

  6. Quality is already assured by university processes but professional body accreditation may enhance pull for audience. • Partnership with the external professional body • Formal professional recognition • May be promoted on professional body website or bulletin. • May supply certificates for those attending (RCN, IBMS). • Enhances marketing material and give added reason to attend. • Remember to include in evaluation items.
