Starting SP: 2008 To advance Social Performance Management in Azerbaijan microfinance Market and facilitate achieving greater transparency in achieving ‘double bottom line’.

  3. Starting Social Performance: Project Components - Promote SPM among AMFA members - Build capacity of AMFA to become pioneer of SPM & social audit in Azerbaijan - Test Social Audit with 3 member organizations - Identify specific capacity building needs of AMFA members to improve SPM

Challenges, Lessons Learned Challenges LessonsLearned Employing SPM expert At least 3 years of experience in Microfinance Tools & Available materials SPM materials developed By using MFC, EMP, SEEP Awareness raising on SPM No traditional training. Members learn more about SPM during SA rather than in traditional SPM trainings Awareness raising on SPM Held individual informal meetings with the member MFIs (board members)

More Lessons Learned Members/stakeholders need to be involved in determining networks strategy in advancing SPM in the sector (this might be specific for the different countries but in general some elements could be similar) MFIs need to be encouraged for cost sharing mechanism to implement SA recommendations after they receive the first ToT on Social Audit, SPM training. Members needs survey need to be done & MOU signed to ensure ownership & commitment to SP initiative

AMFA services on SP • Conduct Social Audit for its members • Provide technical and consultancy assistance in delivering the social audit • Conduct trainings on SPM for the staff of member institutions • Advisory support in interpreting the results of Social Audit • Provide educational facilities on SPM and Social Audit • Assist in raising technical assistance and grants
