What is Project SELF? • State ACCESS Grant to address the general topic of transitionof IEP students from school to work with an emphasis on self-advocacy skills and assistive technology. • Involves the process of regular education teachers working collaboratively with special education teachers to provide a cadre of services for students transitioning from school to work.

  4. Components of Project SELF • 1-2 PEERS Teams per district consisting of 4-8 people per group • Attend Kick-Off in October • Participate in PEERS • Attend optional workshops as related to PEERS topic • Collect Data for grant Evaluation • Attend Wrap-Up in April

  5. Time Frame • October: Kick-Off Meeting • October through April: PEERS • April: Wrap-up Meeting and Submit Data • May 31, 2005: final date for all materials to be submitted

  6. What’s in it for me? • PEERS Stipend • $400 per facilitator • $200 per team member • Funding available for resources and materials to support PEERS topics • Funding available for classroom materials • Release time for Kick-Off Meeting, Wrap-up Meeting, and optional workshops • College Credit available through Ashland University

What is PEERS? • PEERS consists of: • Team of 4-8 educators • Focus on a self-selected topic of study • For a total of 15 hours • 9 hours of team meetings • 6 hours of peer coaching • Team meetings will be scheduled by the team facilitator to meet the needs of the team members • Stipends and college credit available for participants

  8. Why PEERS? • PEERS is a high quality professional development that is job-embedded and research based. It meets the standards of High Quality Professional Development as defined by the Ohio Governor’s Commission on Teaching Success as supported by ASCD and NSDC.
