  2. Early Childhood • Born on February 6, 1945 • First lived in the St. Ann Parish, Jamaica • Later moved to a neighborhood known as Trench Town located in Kingston, Jamaica • Started vocal lessons with Joe Higgs • Met Peter Tosh while doing his voice lessons

  3. Wailing Wailers • First time a band was formed – releasing Simmer Down • After this Bob moved to the U.S. • Met his wife Rita Anderson while in the U.S. • He then moved back to Jamaica after getting married and reformed the band, this time calling themselves The Wailers

  4. Burnin’ • The last album done by the group with inclusion of Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh • Huge hit in the U.S. featured song “I Shot the Sherriff”

  5. I-Threes • The addition of a trio of female vocalists known as the I-Threes join to form the band known as Bob Marley & The Wailers • Shortly after the release of album Rastaman Vibrations an assassination attempt was made on Bob and his wife Rita. They survived their friend Don Taylor needed surgery

  6. London • Bob flees Jamaica to London, UK • Starts his work on the album Exodus • Simultaneously makes the album Kaya, which had a theme of love and brought the One Love Peace Concert where Bob got the leaders of the People’s National Party (PNP) & Jamaican Labour Party (JLP) to shake hands and stop the fighting

  7. Madison Square Garden • Bob traveled to the U.S. to perform at the Madison Square Garden; he performed two concerts and fell ill • It was discovered the cancer from his toe he had chosen to not amputate due to his religious beliefs, had spread throughout his body

  8. Germany, Then Home • Bob went to Germany to receive treatment for his cancer. Where it was a success in extending his life longer than expected. • He decided he was going to travel back home to Jamaica. Only he did not complete his journey as he collapsed in Miami, FL
