  1. Space Exploration Unit Final Presentation Due: January 31st/ February 1st

  2. Planet Selection • Your group will design and create a planet. • You will be responsible for developing the conditions of your planet. • You will design a probe or rover for your planet. • This project is worth over 300 points so stay focused and contribute to your group.

  3. Planet Calahani

  4. The Science Component Choose and list 10 planet conditions. • Wind • Temperature • Gravity • Magnetic Field • Gases, • Moon/s • Terrain • Objects in Atmosphere • Structure (example: mantel, core, crust) • Orbit around Sun • Distance from the Sun • Length of a day • How long will it take to travel here from Earth?

  5. The Science Component • List of probe/rover instruments that measures each of the 10 conditions. • Schematic drawing of space probe/rover and is completed on time. *Model must be original and designed and created as a team. It cannot be something you bring from home. • Build a 3-D model of the probe/rover this will be done with the assistance of FVTC. • You must use your time wisely during the development and construction in the FAB LAB.

  6. The Science Component

  7. Probes & Rovers

  8. Planet Grillanda

  9. Communication Arts Component After reading The Green Book. You will writ a space exploration and colonization story. • Everyone will complete their own story! Part 1: • Why did you leave earth? • Why was each member of your team selected? • What materials are you taking along and why? Part 2: • Explain your voyage to your new planet. • What was your spacecraft? • What were your travel conditions? • How long was your voyage? Part 3: • What are the conditions of the planet you were colonizing? • Relate this to your space instrumentation and results.

  10. The Communication Arts Component Part 4: • How can human life or other forms of life exist on this planet? • What are the challenges you face in colonization? Part 5: • Conclusion: Summarize your story. • Describe life on your planet one year after arrival/colonization. Story is… • Written and a minimum of 3 pages typed • Size 12 font(Calibri or Times New Roman) • Double spaced • Includes all five requirements above • Uses correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, capitalization, etc.

  14. Planet Exon

  15. Technical Component Powerpoint Slide Presentation Each person on team will do 5 slides. • Assign one each for: title, planet, shelter, environment, and picture of each member and their name. • Two related photos that must fit your planet from the NASA website. • Using faceinhole.com make an image of your team in space. • All slides use transitions, using several different types.

  16. The Fox Valley Technical College is coming to Madison! The FAB LAB • 2 - laser cutters • 1- Router • 2 - 3D printers…so cool! • Laptops to work on probe/rover • Machines will be kept in Mrs. Westphal’s room for approximately 3 weeks starting January 11th – February 1st • Steve Gallagher from Fox Valley Tech. Will be coming to talk with us on January 7thto explain the probe/rover project.

  17. Shelters • Shelter can be made from materials found on your planet. • All items are securely attached. No stray marks, smudges, or glue stains. • Creative design. Several objects used in diorama. • On table for showcase, effort went into planning and designing. • Class time used wisely.
