  5. DHS Career Center Highlights • ROP Classes • College Speakers • Job Shadowing/Apprenticeships • Career Interest Inventories/Assessments • Scholarships • “Get Set” Program for girls interested in math, science, technology, engineering • Job Board/Work Permits

  6. Life after graduation… • Community College • 4-year College/University • Trade/Specialty School • Military • Full-time Work • Apprenticeship • …or any combination of the above!

  7. CSU/UC Minimum Requirements“A-G’s”

  8. University of California • Serves top 1/8 of high school graduate • MINIMUM GPA of 3.0 to apply Comprehensive Review includes: • A-G courses in grades 10 – 11 • number of a-g courses • number of AP/Honors • rigor of the senior year • extra-curricular activities, special talents • SAT or ACT

  9. CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY • Serves top 1/3 of high school graduates • Local CSUEB and SFSU priority enrollment • CSU Eligibility Index = GPA + SAT/ACT • Minimum 2.0 GPA, 3.0 automatically qualifies for non-impacted campuses • Requires SAT or ACT w/o writing • Average cost $19-24,000/year living on-campus

California Private Colleges: • 75 Independents in California alone • 9 out of 10 receive financial assistance • More students graduate in 4 years • Every admission file is personally reviewed • Classes are smaller with actual professors • Personal attention to succeed in college/life • Average cost of $38,000 more expensive, but average financial aid package is $19,900/year

California Community Colleges: • All students should take “a-g” requirements, especially MATH if they wish to be in a “Transfer Program” • DUSD Concurrent Enrollment Program for 10-12 graders-earn HS and College credit • Transfer Programs/AA & AS/Certificates • Average cost $1000/year • No SAT or ACT testing required

  12. To Do This Year • Create a 4-year plan with your counselor • Tri-Valley College Fair- October 15 • Take the PSAT October 18 • Participate in clubs, sports and other extra-curricular activities • Visit the Career Center • Apply for Academic Block D and CSF in October and February

  13. Use Your Summer Time Wisely! • DHS Summer School for remediation • Community Service/Volunteer Work • College Visits • UC Berkeley’s ATDP- 3.5 GPA needed • 4-year College Programs (ie. COSMOS) • Community College Classes (electives only)-receive high school and college credit • Paid work
