  1. Welcome to Room 209! Mrs. Lauren Flood Learning Skills lflood@chatham-nj.org

  2. What is Learning Skills? • This course assists each student in English, math, science, and social studies, as needed. There is close communication between the resource teacher and the teachers of the mainstream subjects. Good study skills, appropriate for each student and the subject matter, are taught and incorporated into each lesson. IEP suggestions and modifications are also included. • During learning skills, students may receive the following, depending on the accommodations and/or modifications stated in his or her Individualized Education Plan, or IEP. • Extra time for tests • Study Guides for science and social studies • Practice tests/quizzes • Organize long-term projects • Study techniques *Please refer to your child’s I.E.P. for the appropriate information. If you have any questions, please contact me directly.

  3. In Class we… 1. Review the calendar. Students take out their agendas, and we review daily homework, as well as, long-term projects. 2. Complete review activities. -Reading Checkpoint -Social Studies information -English reading and review 3. Review course study guides and identify important information. 4. Create study tools and learn material using mnemonic strategies.

  4. Homework? Tests? • No homework is assigned in this course. • No tests/assessments are given in this course. • This course may assist students with homework and prepare them for tests and/or other assessments. • Students may take practice tests, and receive help, as needed. Students are also encouraged to see me in the morning or after school when he or she needs help.

  5. Communication with You • Please e-mail me at lflood@chatham-nj.org • I will also contact you if your child has numerous missing assignments and/or outstanding projects. • If your child needs extra help, he or she may see me before school at 7:30or after school by appointment.

  6. Communication with Team • Daily communication through e-mails and meetings • Team Meeting on C and G days
