  2. First Steps • Write a purpose statement • What are you trying to achieve? • Are you aligned with your campus Mission Statement? • Have you defined your learning outcomes? • Ask yourself…why? • Understand what your obligations are

Balancing Two Worlds • World One • Campus Constituents • What are their needs? • What do they want counselors to know? • World Two • Counselors: Community College vs. High School • What are their expectations? • What do they think they need to know? • Use your data!!! • Don’t have any useful data? Now What?

  4. Use your Data!!! • Uses for data • Event dates • Pertinent Topics • Timing and Flow • Food (yes, it’s important!) • Haven’t collected any – now what? • Talk to trusted counselors • Talk to area counselors for their needs • Talk to colleagues • Reference past campus programs

  5. Broad Strokes • Begin with basics • Budget • Timeline to event • Communication timeline • Identify Key People • Identify a space

  6. Honing in • Develop your program • Length of day • Check in • Welcome • What are the messages being sent • Who do you want to speak? • Don’t everyone talk at once • Breaks? • Yes! Every one and ½ hours. • Breakfast or lunch or both?

If yes, can I mitigate that? • Are they in a comfortable space? • Will there be food and beverages? • Is there enough to keep them engaged for the time they are on campus? • We all love swag
