  3. What Is Homeroom? • A data management system that pulls information from Skyward and OSPI. • A user-friendly method for viewing data. • Another storage system for state, district, grade level and classroom assessment scores. • In use by over 150 Washington school districts.

  4. Why Do We Have Homeroom? • Alpine, our former data management system, was not able to integrate with Skyward so a replacement system was necessary. • State and Federal grants require data. • Teachers and principals are required to use data as part of the new evaluation process. • Curriculum is driven by data. • Schools are required to use data in their School Improvement Plans. • Homeroom allows us to easily gather and analyze the required information.

  5. What Does The District Expect Me To Do? • Become familiar with Homeroom. • Use Homeroom to look at student data. • Make data-driven decisions. • Enter accurate daily attendance into Skyward. • Enter accurate test results into Skyward and/or EasyCBM.

  6. Note: • Each time the stop sign appears it means there is specific practice to accompany the skill.

  7. How Do I Get Started? • The district has activated your Homeroom account for you. Your username is the same as your Skyward employee account. • You will want to use a Google Chrome, Firefox, or Safari browser. Homeroom does not play as nicely with Internet Explorer. If you need help installing those browsers, please contact the Helpdesk. Open the Browser.

  8. Log-in • Insert the following address into the browser: battleground.schooldata.net • Click “enter” on the keyboard to take you to the login page that looks like this.

  9. Log-in Continued • Click the star in the upper right of the browser address bar to make it turn yellow. • A text box will appear with this name. Put it in the folder called “Bookmark Bar”. Click Done and it will appear in your “favorites” bar of the browser.

  10. Log-in Continued • You can also access Homeroom through the Battle Ground webpage. • Go to Staff Resourcesand select Homeroom.

  11. Log-in Continued • Type in your Skyward username (first initial, last name, number) [example: atuchardt21] • If you are new to the system type in the word “password” (all lowercase). If you have used the Homeroom system before, type in your password. Hit enter or select Sign In.

  12. Log-in Continued • Forgot your password? • Click the “reset password” button. • Go to your e-mail and wait for a message to arrive from Homeroom. Then follow the directions.

  13. Log-in Continued • You should now be in Homeroom. • It will look similar to this.

  15. Widget Icon Overview - Directory • This will give you a list of the schools to which you have access to. • Administrators will have access to many buildings. • Teachers will have access to their own buildings.

  16. Widget Icon Overview - Logins and Links • This widget allows you to navigate quickly to other websites. • Anything with a lock requires security. We will work with the company to add thesethroughout the year. • You can add unsecured websites here.

  17. Widget Icon Overview - Logins and Links • Click the “+” button. • Click the “Login” button. • Click on the drop-downarrow. Choose “Educator Access/Skyward”. • Type in your username. • Click Save.

  18. Widget Icon Overview -Lookup • Use the lookup widget to find a student or information about a student. • Type a student name into the search box. (It must be a current or former student of yours.)

  19. Widget Icon Overview - Lookup • You can use partial or whole names to filter through the list to find the student you are looking for. • Think of a former student.Search on their name or partof their name. Once the studentis visible in the list, click on the student name.

  20. Widget Icon Overview – Magnifying Glass • You will get a widget that is specific to the student you are looking for. • Click on the magnifyingglass to drill down into the student information.

  21. Student Information Overview - Links • Now you have specific information about this student. You can navigate by scrolling along the side of the screen. • You can also navigate by clicking the links at the top of the page.

  22. Student Information Overview - Tabs • Notice that there is a new tab at the top of the page. • You can navigate between the tabs without closing anything. If you go back to the dashboard you can even lookup another student and have multiple student tabs open.

  23. Student Information Overview - Schedule • Find information about the student’s current or past schedule by going to the “Schedule” widget. • Use the calendar button to find information about previous years.

  24. Student Info Overview – Gradebook Viewer • Find information about the student’s current grades in the Gradebook Viewer widget. • Notice the tabs at the top. Click to see each kind of assignment. Toggle between the “Assignments” and “Grades” to see the grade received for that assignment.

  25. Student Info Overview - Assessments • Find assessment information for the student. • Notice the drop down menus. You can find data from previous years or sort by kind of data.

  26. Student Info Overview - Assessments • The thick color bars tell you how well a student did on an assessment. • The thin bars are the test cut scores. • Students with IEPs can pass the tests at the “Basic” level.

  27. Student Info Overview – Primary F&P Data • To access information on the Fountas & Pinnell test go to Student Groups and selectthe grade level of interest. • Then select the assessment,“Rdg RiskAnalysis”.

  28. Student Info Overview – Primary F&P Data • From here select View Strands to see the detailed scores.

  29. Student Info Overview - Attendance • Quickly see the attendance history of the student. • Click on the circle to find out which class the student missed or was late to.

  30. Student Info Overview - Other Widgets • Find student information in the following widgets: • Activities • Discipline • Enrollments • Services

  31. Student Info Overview – Student Learning Plans • Create a Student Learning Plan if you are a specialist who has access to them. (High Cap, Title I, ELL, etc.) • Click here.

  32. Student Info Overview – Student Learning Plans • Click on the boxes to add information to the SLP. • Contact Pauline (1541), Allison (5364), or Judy (5391) for help on adding the kinds of information you may need in the Student Learning Plan widget.

  33. Student Info Overview - Lookup • To find another student click on the “Teacher Dashboard” tab at the top of the page. • Go to the “Lookup” widget. Click the back arrow in the Lookup widget. • Now start again.

  34. Widget Icon Overview - Assessment • The Assessment widget will give you information about groups of students. • Click on the “Assessment” link at the top of the dashboard or scroll down to the “Assessment” widget.

  35. Widget Icon Overview - Assessment • Click on the “Choose a Student Group” dropdown menu.It will open up a screen with a toggle. • “My Student Groups”are groups you create yourself. This is the default setting because you will eventually use more of your own groups than the preset groups.

  36. Widget Icon Overview - Assessment • Do you want to start over with your data search but can’t get the data to clear out of the widget? • Click the refresh buttonin the top right corner of theassessment widget.

  37. Widget Icon Overview - Assessment • Click “Student Groups”.These have been preset using settings in Skyward. • Click on a group.

  38. Widget Icon Overview - Assessment • The “Choose an Assessment or Set” widget opens. • There are three options: Assessments, Assessment Sets and My Assessment Sets.

  39. Widget Icon Overview - Assessment • The “Assessments” toggle is preset by the tests that exist within Homeroom. • The “Assessment Sets” toggle is preset by Homeroom. • The “My Assessment Sets” toggle is created by the user.

  40. Widget Icon Overview - Assessment • In the “Assessments” toggle, click the test you want to view. (Example: 4th grade teacher wanting to see 3rd grade test scores.)

  41. Widget Icon Overview - Assessment • A data screen will pop up with the student information. • Click the “PerformanceLevels” buttonto see the percentage of students in each level.

  42. Widget Icon Overview - Assessment • Click on the “i” to see the students in eachof the performance levels. • Click the “x” in the top left corner of thebox to close it. Move your curser off of the performance levels and you will go back to the original screen view.

  43. Widget Icon Overview - Assessment • Click the “View Strands” button to see each subtest or strand. • Now you can view all the test data. • Notice that you can goback to the other view byclicking on the tab.

  44. Widget Icon Overview - Assessment • You can sort the students by clicking on the “Advanced Ordering & Sorting” button. • Now you can clickand drag the tests into the order in which you would like to view them.

  45. Widget Icon Overview - Assessment • Now click the “sort”button and decide ifyou want to see the data in descendingor ascending order. • Click “Done” to sort.

Student Groups Widget • Do you want to make a student group of your own? • There are two types of groups: • Static - The students in these groups do not change unless you manually add or remove them. • Smart - The students in these groups can change every night based on the filter criteria you set up for the group.
