Article II U.S. Constitution. The Executive Branch. Made up of thousands of people, led by the President and his Cabinet. The President is elected with the Vice-president for a four-year term. He may be elected only twice. ELECTION DAY is the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November.

  2. The Executive Branch • Made up of thousands of people, led by the President and his Cabinet. • The President is elected with the Vice-president for a four-year term. He may be elected only twice. • ELECTION DAY is the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. • INAUGRATION DAY is January 20th. • The Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court administers the oath of office.

  3. The Executive Branch • REQUIREMENTS: • AGE: 35 • CITIZENSHIP: natural-born • RESIDENCY: must live in the USA for 14-years prior to the election process.

  4. The Executive Branch • The President of the USA works in the White House. • His personal office is called the Oval Office. • The executive Branch is responsible for overseeing and enforcing the laws.

The Executive Branch • The Presidential Cabinet is made up of a group of advisors, called “Secretaries.” • The Secretary of State is the top ranking member of the Cabinet. • Other members include the secretaries of the Treasury, Housing & Urban Development, Homeland Security, Education, Agriculture, Defense, and the U.S. Attorney General. • Currently there are 16 secretaries.

  8. The Executive Branch • As COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF… …he makes all decisions regarding every branch of the military. …he can call the National Guard from the individual states into the service of the United States.

  9. The Executive Branch • As CHIEF EXECUTIVE… …he makes sure all his Cabinet, staff, and other employees are doing their jobs.

  10. The Executive Branch • AS CHIEF OF STATE … …he is in charge of all foreign relations. …he travels to other countries to meet with foreign leaders. …he hosts foreign leaders who visit the USA. …he can make treaties with foreign nations (but the Senate must approve them).

  11. The Executive Branch • As CHIEF LEGISLATOR … …he may suggest laws to Congress. …he has the power to approve or VETO laws that Congress makes.

  12. The Executive Branch • As CHIEF OF PARTY … …he is the head of his political party. …he makes important decisions regarding his political party.

The Executive Branch • IMPEACHMENT: The process of removing an elected official from office because of treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors. • The House of Representatives begins the process with an investigation. • The Senate acts as the jury. • The Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court serves as judge.
