  13. Assign Homework & Bus Calls • Assignment notebook – Please check each night! • While waiting for bus calls, the students may start on homework if they choose, but it must be brought home to be checked by a parent even if they finish

Homework Policy • Usually every day except Friday • Assignment Notebook – Please check every night! • Sign the bottom after homework is completed • Please initial homework • No Homework - The student will automatically move to yellow on stoplight and stay in for recess • The student will not be allowed to finish the missing assignment during recess

  15. Homeworkopoly • When students turn in their homework, they can play! • Every Friday, they have the chance to win a prize. • Free Homework pass • Computer time • Sit at the teacher’s desk • …and much more!

  16. Grades Third grade students are given letter grades on their report cards A = Outstanding B = Above Average C = Average N = Failing/Needs Improvement Students are also graded on work habits and behavior.  = Satisfactory N = Needs Improvement

  17. Behavior Stoplight Each day, students start on “green” • 1st time = warning from Mrs. Van Dyke • 2nd time = move to “yellow”; 10 min. of Recess Room • 3rd time = move to “red”; Recess Room; Behavior Report; call home to parents

  18. Van Dyke Dollars • Students can earn dollars by: • Sharing • Listening to directions • Turning in homework • Walking quietly in hallway • Being a good citizen • …and so much more!!!! • Class Store

  19. S.T.A.R. Binders • Students That Are Responsible • Helps students stay organized and keep you in touch with our classroom! • S.T.A.R. Binder Overview

  20. Reading Log • Required to read at least 20 minutes per day • Your child is responsible for keeping track of minutes read. • Please remember to check & sign – not accepted without a parent signature • Extra minutes read earn dollars

  21. Classroom Library • 2 books at a time • Library privileges can be taken away • Look for “This book belongs to…” labels • Book Bags – first day of each week

  22. V.I.P. Club • Very Intelligent Pupils • This is an optional club for those who want to go “above and beyond” the normal classroom expectations. • Questions are included online and in individual student booklets

  23. Cinema Club • Students earn the right to watch a movie based on a children’s book during recess/lunch. Popcorn is served! :o) • Raffle • PG movies

  24. Snack • Please have your child bring in a healthy snack every day. • Water bottles – no juice, please

  25. Parent Volunteers Needed! • At school or at home! • Head room parent • Class parties, field trips, classroom activities • Extra set of hands • Technology – scanning, typing student work, etc.
