The Ancient Plan of God • Before God set creation in motion… • A plan centered on Jesus Christ • “For He [the Christ] was foreknown before the foundation of the world…” (1:20a) • It includedyou, too! • “…but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you.” (1:20b) • “…who are chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father…” (1:1b-2a) In a nutshell: you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house…Through Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:4-5 God is Building a LIVING TEMPLE

(2:6) • Begins HERE: • Staggering cost, even to God:‘precious’ • En+Tuphos: high value, high-price • Cf. “Costly” – ME /Gates / GOD • God is HEAVILY-INVESTED in “THE WAY” • NO TEMPLE “BUILDINGS” !!! • NOT A RELIGION! For this is contained in Scripture: "BEHOLD, I LAY IN ZION A CHOICE STONE, A PRECIOUS CORNER stone, AND HE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED." 1 Peter 2:6

(2:6) • A Rock of Offense(2:7-8) This precious value, then, is for you who believe; but for those who disbelieve, "THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED, THIS BECAME THE VERY CORNER stone," and, "A STONE OF STUMBLING AND A ROCK OF OFFENSE"; for they stumble because they are disobedient to the word, and to this doom they were also appointed. 1 Peter 2:7-8 Contradiction?

Why God WINS: More Losers! God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things--and the things that are not--to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. 1 Corinthians 1:26-29 Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 1 Cor. 1:26

(2:6) • A Rock of Offense (2:7-8) • Starting Over: a NewRace of Humanity • Must be “Born Again”… But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FORGod's OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; for you once were NOT A PEOPLE, but now you are THE PEOPLE OF GOD; you had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, but now you have RECEIVED MERCY. 1 Peter 2:9-10 (NIV)

(2:6) • A Rock of Offense (2:7-8) • Starting Over: New Race of Humanity • The Dwelling Place of God • The exalted, unique & ancient purpose of God… You also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house… 1 Peter 2:5 Just as God said, "I WILL DWELL IN THEM AND WALK AMONG THEM; AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE. 2 Corinthians 6:16
