Welcome to New York City • Today, I will be talking about New York City. • The Population, weather, Official language, Currency, National Flag, Map, Culture, Attractions, places to stay and lastly Transportation. • NYC is a beautiful place to visit, there are a lot of places to visit in NYC • If your on a short tour, there are great places you can stay at. • Welcome to NYC.gov | City of New York

Basic Information About USA • Location: North America, bordering both the North Atlantic Ocean and the North Pacific Ocean, between Canada and Mexico • Area: • total: 9,826,675 sq. km • country comparison to the world: 3 • land: 9,161,966 sq. km • water: 664,709 sq. km • Land Boundaries: • total: 12,034 km • border countries: Canada 8,893 km (including 2,477 km with Alaska), Mexico 3,141 km

  4. Population • The overall population of New York City has never been higher than it is now (8.3 million people)

  5. Weather • This year it will be a really hot summer. • There will be a lot of rainfall across the five boroughs. • The heat and rainfall will stay through the month of July and some of August. • But the rain doesn't end their a severe hurricane will likely threaten the East Coast sometime between Sept. 16 and 19, similar to that of Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

  6. Official Language • Many languages are used, or historically have been used in the United States. The most commonly used language is English. • English 80%, Spanish 12.4%, other Indo-European 3.7%

  7. Currency The basic unit of New York City currency is the dollar, which is similarly used in the United States. The exchange of currency in New York is done at bank branches or at currency-exchange booths in airports.

  8. National Flag • The flags of New York City include the city's flag and the flags of each of its boroughs. • The city's flag is a vertical tricolor of blue, white, and orange and in the center it is a municipal seal in blue. • The tricolor design is brought from the Prince's Flag, the flag of the Dutch Republic, used in 1625, the year New Amsterdam was settled on the island of Manhattan

Map of NYC • EllisIsland is where it all began, and now with the New York Pass you can visit it completely free, you will also receive a free ferry ride to the Island and the Statue of Liberty • NewYorkSky ride – a practical helicopter tour again completely free of charge and also Fast with a NYC pass.

  10. Culture/Customs • The City of New York is an important center for music, film, theater, dance and visual art. • Parades in NYC take place annually. For e.g. Saint Patrick day Parade, Easter Day Parade and more. • In NYC it is common for beggars to do things in order to get money, for e.g.. Hold a door for you or give you a sticker.

  11. Attraction in NYC • Central Park • The Statue of Liberty • The High Line • St. Patrick’s Cathedral • New York Transit Museum

  12. Places to stay • You can stay at CPI hotel. • The location is excellent. Nearby there is the subway and walking distance to many restaurants and attractions. • This hotel doesn’t include rent or mortgage. Price is good. • You can also rent a private room in an apartment if you are with a family. • The location is great. You are near Central Park, Grand Central and more places. • The prices is $449/week.

  13. Transportation to NYC • From Toronto to NYC it will take about 10 hours by bus. It is not that cheap, it’s cheaper to fly. Seats on the bus are small, cannot possibly sleep because the bus stops every 2 hours to each destination. • By plane (which is the best option) it will take about 1.5 hours. Air Canada (www.aircanada.ca) regularly has deals to NYC • You can also take a train but like a bus it stops to each destination.

  14. Inthe end… • New York City is a beautiful place to visit • There are a lot of fun places to visit and enjoy with your family. • There are a lot of attractions and hotels you can stay at with nice people. • I hope you learned a lot about New York City.
