Recommendations for Private Sector Engagement Health care companies: • Sharing information on regulatory and other processes • Ensuring appropriateness for HBCs/Incentives for product development for HBCs when profit may not be the driver/ensuring affordability • Ensure development appropriate to needs • Education of private sector providers at country levels and from national to individual providers • Dissemination of key documents and education materials through sales rep/detailers • Work with/through to professional societies on TB • Contribute capacity (ie. manufacturing); ensure capacity • Ensure appropriate “sales” especially where no regulatory process in place • Leverage/influence regulatory authorities at country levels to fast track approval • Influence MOFs to prioritize TB control and TB R&D • Need more engagement in development of TB vaccines/currently insufficient – need leadership commitments • Collaboration between MNC pharma and developing country pharma • Shorten time from development to usage/introduction for new tools (developed countries informed but not HBCs • Help promote/ensure appropriate use in private sector where private sector engaged in TB control Non-health care companies: • Those that provide health care services could be early adapters vis a vis new tools • Introduce/expand TB control in the work force Private providers (individuals and associations): • Engage from national to local/individual level • Ensuring that they work through NTP guidelines – how can we influence the sales forces here to promote better practice? • Ensure adherence to NTP policies/standards/guidelines • Infrastructure for dissemination? Decisions requested from the Stop TB coordinating Board Hosting private sector meetings with key Stop TB partners Hosting a dinner meeting with business CEO at 13th Coordianting Board Meeting in Berlin Working with top business school MBA students in the working groups on specific projects and for a strong corporate engagement Developing a corporate private sector strategy that clearly outlines the areas of engagement with the Stop TB partnership and its partners Jean-François de Lavison

Recommendations for Private Sector Engagement Health care companies: • Sharing information on regulatory and other processes • Through European Associations (EDMA : diagnostics, EFPIA : Pharma, contact JF de Lavison) • Ensuring appropriateness for HBCs/Incentives for product development for HBCs when profit may not be the driver/ensuring affordability • Building a new business approach based on the conviction that profit is not just made on high margins with small volumes but can be achieved with small margins and big volumes and be driven in the HBC • Ensure development appropriate to needs • Involvement of the private sector in the Partnership (working groups) • Proposals from business schools (MBA) participating in the working groups • Education of private sector providers at country levels and from national to individual providers • Specific actions with the World Economic Forum and coalition of private companies (GBC) • Dissemination of key documents and education materials through sales rep/detailers • Work with/through to professional societies on TB • EDMA : (slides) • Contribute capacity (ie. manufacturing); ensure capacity • Participation of private sector companies from developing countries in the working groups • Ensure appropriate “sales” especially where no regulatory process in place • Registration process • Leverage/influence regulatory authorities at country levels to fast track approval • European Associations • Influence MOFs to prioritize TB control and TB R&D • Participation of the private sector in the High Level Mission • Need more engagement in development of TB vaccines/currently insufficient – need leadership commitments • TB Vaccines Working Group (Lew Baker – Ulrich Fruth) • Collaboration between MNC pharma and developing country pharma • Private Sector Committee, next May, 8 and 9 • Shorten time from development to usage/introduction for new tools (developed countries informed but not HBCs • Not only from the side of the private sector, need to speed up the registration process • Help promote/ensure appropriate use in private sector where private sector engaged in TB control • Facilitate exchange and advocacy, building on success stories – private sector meetings • Advocacy, Communication and social mobilization Working Group collaboration Jean-François de Lavison

Recommendations for Private Sector Engagement Non-health care companies: • Those that provide health care services could be early adapters vis a vis new tools • Develop the network, possible collaboration with other coalitions of other private companies (GBC…) • Introduce/expand TB control in the work force • Identify successful organizations (Heineken….) Private providers (individuals and associations): • Engage from national to local/individual level • EDMA Advocacy • Ensuring that they work through NTP guidelines – how can we influence the sales forces here to promote better practice? • Ensure adherence to NTP policies/standards/guidelines • Infrastructure for dissemination? • Recommendations through the contribution of the Business Schools and new business models Jean-François de Lavison

Recommendations for Private Sector Engagement Decisions requested from the Stop TB coordinating Board - Hosting private sector meetings with key Stop TB partners - 3 private sector meetings (April & November (Tachi Yamada) 2007, May 2008 (M. Kazatchkine)) - Hosting a dinner meeting with business CEO at 13th Coordianting Board Meeting in Berlin - TB research (Global Research Movement involving the private sector – Belaggio) - Working with top business school MBA students in the working groups on specific projects and for a strong corporate engagement - First experience with EM Lyon, open discussions with Harvard Business Schools, William Davidson Institute (Michigan University) and Insead - Developing a corporate private sector strategy that clearly outlines the areas of engagement with the Stop TB partnership and its partners - Pre-project official during the next Stop TB Board in Cairo (May, 2008) Jean-François de Lavison
