Workshop Goals • Help faculty stay current about data, tools, services, and research related to the deep earth. • Address the "big science questions" related to deep earth (e.g. plumes, slabs, drips, post-perovskite, etc.) and explore exciting new scientific approaches • To consider ways to effectively teach about "what can't be seen", at least not directly. • Develop and review classroom teaching activities for undergraduate education using these data, tools, services, and research results to facilitate teaching about the deep earth across the geoscience curriculum. • Help you develop teaching activities about Deep Earth for your own courses. What do you need? We’re here to help!

  4. Outcomes • A fully developed, peer-reviewed Deep Earth learning activity, ready to go! Like the Nike ad says: JUST DO IT!

What to Expect • Whole group “live” presentations • Q/A using “Chat” • Threaded Discussions • Asynchronous; post ideas, comment, reply to key questions, submit your own questions… • Small group discussions • Separate call-in service, to plan and review • Web-Based Work Spaces • Post group summaries • ActivitySheets • Post new Deep Earth teaching activities

  6. Scheduling • Try to attend all scheduled sessions, but… • We understand that you may have unavoidable time conflicts • All presentations will be posted on the webpage • You can join the discussions on your own time. • Plenty of time to work off-line to develop your activity, get feedback
