  2. DEEP PLANTING HUNDREDS OF UNROOTED WILLOW POLES WHEN THE COLDEST DAY WAS 103 DEGREES

  3. Guadalupe River @ Williams Pipeline Crossing, South of Victoria, TX (near the harbor) • Bank erosion (lateral erosion) has exposed over 100 ft of pipeline, threatening pipeline integrity • Co-designed by River Research & Design, Inc. & Submar, Inc. Contractor: Submar, Inc. • Not a flashy stream, stays on the flood for months at a time • Bed material: sand-silt-clay, not incised, rural. • Pool-riffle-pool regime, slope < 1% • Average width 100-150 ft, 10-18 ft tall banks

  11. WILLOW PLANTING

  12. Very hot down in Victoria, TX {103 degrees}. This was the coldest day, it hit 112 degrees some days. We cut several hundred willow branches & small trunks (3/4” to 1.5” butt diameter, 6’ to 8 ft long, soaked them for 10 days, then planted & watered them in (July-Aug time frame). CONSTRUCTION-Guadalupe River @ Pipeline-John Lewis-July 2005

  13. CONSTRUCTION-The constructed soaking pool for the willows. Pumps kept it full. Willows were cut & soaked for 10 days. CONSTRUCTION-Guadalupe River @ Pipeline-Derrick – June 3, 2005
