Definitions • Intramurals - the phase of a schools Physical Education program that is geared to the skills & abilities of the entire student body and consists of voluntary participation in games, sports and other activities. • Must include a wide variety of activities so average students get a chance to use skills he/she was introduced to in class. • Interscholastic Program – program designed for students possessing athletic ability to excel in their particular sport. Emphasis on competition.

  3. Intramural Objectives • 1. Health • Contributes to physical, social and emotional health. • Practical fitness, group participation, self confidence • 2. Skill • Opportunity for all to display and develop • 3. Social Development • Social contacts – co –ed, sportspersonship – team concept

  4. Intramural Objectives • 4. Recreation • Develop interest in activities • Carry over values. • What are some sport values? • What are the pros of the intramural program? • What are the pros of the interscholastic program? • What are the cons of the intramural program? • What are the cons of the interscholastic program?

  5. Organizational Considerations • Publicity and promotion • The student body should be well aware of upcoming activities with the use of posters, announcements, athletics board, etc. • Units of competition • Sign up system • Home room system • Age groupings • Draft • What else?

  6. Types of competition • 3 most common • Leagues • Tournaments • Meets • Seat Assignment. • On your own, brainstorm some activities/ideas which could help boost school intramurals/morale.
