Vocab • Birdshot(N) • Small pellets designed for shooting birds • She was referring to the forty-seven pounds of birdshot in canvas bags. • Impediment(N) • Stutter, obstacle, obstruction • It wasn’t clear at first as to what the bulletin was about, since the announcer, like all announcers, had a serious speech impediment • Luminous(ADJ) • Radiating or reflecting light • Her voice was a warm, luminous, timeless melody. • Grackle(N) • Long tailed American bird • She said it in a grackle squawk. • Whanging(N) • A resounding blow • The spectacles were intended to make him not only half blind, but to give him whanging headaches besides

  4. Major Themes • Major Theme(Equality) • Nobody can actually be equal no matter the restrictions you put on. People are meant to be different. Even though the restrictions people are placed on people to make them “equal” they still are different.

  5. Minor Theme • Technological Advances • Ear pieces were used for those who were more intelligent than others. • Centrally Planned Government • The government makes people were ear pieces and put weights on more athletic people to make everyone seem equal.
