  1. Summary It is now time for Noah to go into the ark which he has been working so hard to prepare for many years. He is instructed to take along "clean" beasts by sevens and all others in pairs. In seven days the 40-day/night flood will begin. Noah followed all of the instructions the Lord gave to him. Noah was 600 years old at the beginning of the flood. Noah, his wife, their sons, and their wives entered the safety of the ark. The fountains of the deep and the windows of heaven were opened up and a tremendous flood of water resulted. Continued

  2. Summary The waters increased and lifted up the ark and it began to float above the earth. All the high hills that were under the whole heaven were covered (v. 19). As a result, all flesh that moved upon the earth DIED. Noah only remained and those who were with him on the ark. The waters prevailed for 150 days.

  3. Lesson: • Genesis 7:1 (NIV) The LORD then said to Noah, "Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation. • Heb 11:7 By faith Noah, having been warned by God of things not yet seen, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

  4. Lesson: • Noah must have been tempted in many ways in those evil days, yet his faithfulness to the Lord was observed and rewarded. • What a great man was this Noah--A preacher of righteousness (2 Peter 2:5). 2Pe 2:5 And He did not spare the old world, but saved Noah the eighth one, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly. • God has given us all that we need to be successful in following the example of Noah and being seen of the Lord as RIGHTEOUS!

  5. Lesson: • Gen 7:2 You shall take with you every clean animal by sevens, the male and female. And take two of the animals that are not clean, the male and female. • This is the first mention of CLEAN animals and we do not know exactly what God may have revealed to the patriarchs about this matter. • We have been given information about how the clean animals were used by Noah (Genesis 8:20). They were used for sacrifices on the altar Noah built after the flood.

  6. Lesson: • And Noah did according unto all that the Lord commanded him (Gen 7:5). • The fact that Noah and his family were the ONLY ONES obeying (Gen 6:5), make these remarks about the complete obedience of Noah even more remarkable. • Noah lived by faith! • Hebrews 11:7 (NIV) By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.

  7. Lesson: • Genesis 7:11 (NIV) In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, on the seventeenth day of the second month--on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened. • This was not some ordinary happening, but was a miraculous judgment from God upon the evil people of the time!!!. • Water came up from below the earth’s surface and torrential rain fell from above!!!.

  8. Mt. St. Helens Genesis 7:11 11 In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on the same day all the fountains of the great deep burst open, and the floodgates of the sky were opened.

  9. What happens when the fountains of the deep burst open as recorded in Genesis?

  10. 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami Swept away nearly 300,000 souls to their death.

  11. Location: Kanyakumari, India Tsunami Tsunami

  12. 1 km =.62 mile 18-24 miles 3 miles 4,000 miles

  13. Noah and the Flood • The flood was a catastrophic event only matched in its’ awesome magnitude by the creation itself!

  14. ...and the Lord shut him in (Gen 7:16). • God, through mercy, shut the door that kept the flood waters from drowning Noah. • The same door also kept the impenitent sinners out of the ark of safety and as a result they drowned. • 1 Peter 3:20-21 (NIV) who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, 21 and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also--not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

  15. Lesson: • And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the WHOLE HEAVEN, were covered (Gen 7:19). • If words mean anything, this description means that the flood waters covered the whole earth.

  16. Sumerian Clay Tablet-Gilgamesh Epic A Worldwide Flood –2,000 B.C.

  17. Genesis 10: The Table of Nations

  18. Descendants of Noah Review of Lessons 9-11 GENESIS

  19. Tower of Babel • When God scattered the people, he did it by making it impossible for any of the families of the three brothers to understand any of the others' language. • This forced people of like language to marry only among themselves. Their dominant traits became more so. • For instance Ham's name means dark, probably from having dark skin. • Ham named one of his sons Cush, the Hebrew word for black. Cush is the father of the black African races. • Another son, Mizraim, founded both Upper and Lower Egypt.

  20. Recently conducted DNA studies show that the American Indians are descended from the people of Eastern Asia. • Genesis 10:17 makes mention of a group called the Sinites, descended from Ham through Canaan. And Isaiah 49:12 speaks of the Sinim (same Hebrew root), a people who according to the Strong's concordance inhabited the extremity of the known world. (Strong's commentary on the Sinim suggests that it probably refers to the Chinese.)

  21. Genesis 10: The Table of Nations

  22. The Scythians, a Central Asian people who raided the Middle East, (they killed Saul and Jonathon at the Battle of Beth Shan) can be traced to Magog, son of Noah’sson Japheth, and are the fore bearers of today's Russians. • The Great Wall of China was once called the Ramparts of Magogand was built to keep the Scythians out of China. • See map again.
