4. Tutorial • Tutorial 1 • Frying an egg • In this tutorial you will learn some simple techniques that should enable you to draw more effectively. • The drawing tools you will use are: • Oval, Curve, Trapezoid and Fill effects Back

5. Drawing in PowerPoint • Anyone can draw using PowerPoint, it is all a question of patience. • The following tutorial will start of pretty basic and lead you to use the same techniques on more advanced artworks. • The tutorial will assume that you know very little about drawing in PPT Back

6. Graphic One • Fried egg • Your starting point is to ensure that the snap to grid function is off. Un-check Check this box to display the grid lines on screen Back

7. Frying pan • We start out by creating a simple looking frying pan. The first tool to use is the oval tool from the drawing toolbar. Back

8. Draw two oval shapes as show below. Shape 2 Shape 1 This must be your first shape (shape 1) Back

9. Figure 2 Drag and place the top shape (shape 2) over the bottom one as shown above Figure 3 Add a 3rd oval shape as shown in fig 3 Back

10. OK, let’s add some fill colour and fill effects. Fill shape 3 with black. Open the fill colour menu by clicking here Choose black, fill shape 2 by opening the fill colour menu and choosing fill effects two colours> vertical shading style and choose this shade, repeat for shape 1, but use grey and black Back

11. The Handle The handle is a simple Trapezoid from AutoShapes>Basic Shapes filled in the same way as the other objects. Open the AutoShapes menu, choose basic shapes then Trapezoid, draw a short shape as shown, fill using fill effects, two colours and choose brown and black. Choose (No line) Repeat using a small oval shape Back

12. The frying pan is now complete and ready for the egg, before you go any further you should group the objects together. To do this open the Edit menu and click select all then right click on the objects, go to grouping and left click Group. Now your objects are grouped you might like to enlarge the graphic. Back

13. Enlarged view of the frying pan and the drawing of the fried egg We will start off by drawing the egg white using the Curve tool from Lines in the AutoShapes menu (see the following slide) Back

15. The egg Using the curve tool draw a shape similar to this Fill the shape with white Back

16. The egg The egg yoke is an oval shape with No Line colour. Draw an oval as shown Back

17. The egg Fill the oval shape using fill effects and two colours, you will need orange and yellow, horizontal shading and have the top colour yellow. Back

18. Adding the finishing touches. Click on the egg yoke shape and add a shadow effect This one Back

19. Adding the finishing touches. Add another oval shape as shown, this shapes needs to be filled using two colours from the fill effects menu. Do the following: Colour one should be set at 100% transparency, shading style from centre and the centre colour must be white Back

20. Finally: Add some shadow to the egg white using the curve tool and line colour grey Your done! Back

21. Tutorial Eye • In this tutorial you will use the same tools as in the previous one but apply them to face drawing. • Drawing a human eye • The emphasis on this tutorial is to draw a simple human eye. Back

23. The drawing isn’t perfect by any means, the idea is to keep things simple and this way you will develop on the techniques demonstrated. The eye is made up of ovals, fill effects and the curve tool. Let’s take the eye apart Curve tool Oval with transparency Oval Used for demo only moon 4 point star from stars and banners in AutoShapes Ovals Back

24. Step 1 The staring point is to shading, use the oval tool to create this for the surround of the eye socket. Draw an oval shape (No Line) and fill using fill effects, as shown Back

25. Step 2 Draw another oval shape as shown and use fill effects>two colours>white and light grey>vertical shading Back

Eye sockets For the eye sockets I used moon shape from AutoShapes, we need two of these (No Line) The yellow triangle is for adjusting the depth of the shape Rotate the shape using the green circle and fit it to the bottom of the eye as shown. Fill the shapes using two colours, e.g. brown and black Back

27. Eyeball The eyeball is just another oval shape filled using fill effects and two colours, in this case brown and black, from centre and the brown being the centre colour We need to add a star shape for detail to the eyeball, I used 4 point star from AutoShapes See next slide Back

AutoShapes>Stars and Banners You will need to narrow the star shape using the yellow triangle so that it looks like fig 2 Copy and paste the narrowed star then rotate as shown, repeat this until you get a shape as in fig 3 Group the star shapes then drag them onto the eyeball Fig 2 Fig 2 Back

Pupil and Glint The Pupil is once again an oval shape and filled with black The glint is also an oval but filled using fill effects>two colours and with the blue colour set to 100% transparency (No Line) Adding highlights For this I used a moon shape from AutoShapes and used fill effects orange and transparency (no line) Back

30. Eyelashes The curve tool from AutoShapes and lines was used to create the eyelashes You should be able to finish off the eye from here, have at look at some eye images on the Internet for ideas Back

31. Nose Tutorial • This Tutorial will show you how to draw a simple nose

32. Rule of Halves Fig 1 When drawing faces it is important to follow the rule of halves. Basically you need to divide the face into sections as shown in fig 1 Eye line, note that the top of the ears are also on the eye line. Bottom of the nose line Bottom lip line Centre line Alternative angle Back

33. Nose Ok let’s get started on the nose The starting point is to create some shadow using an oval shape and fill effects with transparency. See fig 2 We now need to create tow more oval shapes as shown, using fill effects and transparency, make these slightly lighter than the skin tone using custom colours. Fig 2 Back

34. We now need another oval for the ball of the nose, do this as before using oval>fill effects and transparency, (No Line) Copy and paste the ball of the nose and stretch it out and use this for the bridge of the nose Back

35. Nostrils Once aging the nostrils are just oval shapes filled using fill effects and transparency, I used dark brown, try adding a couple of highlights to the nose as shown Back

Mouth • Here we will draw a simple mouth, the tools to use are curve and fill effects. • Choose the curve tool from AutoShapes and draw the shape of the mouth as shown below, this should be done in two section, bottom lip and top lip. To refine the shape, right click and then left click on edit points Back

37. Filling the mouth We now have our shapes for the mouth, all we need to do now is fill them. Use fill effects and two colours. (No Line) A pale pink flesh tone and black should do for now, for the top lip the dark colour needs to be at the bottom and bottom lip the dark shade needs to be at the top You can finish of the lips by adding shading and highlights as shown Back

38. Putting it together OK! Let’s put it all together and see what it looks like, we can add hair later A little scary I know but it is coming along Back

39. Hair Hair is the difficult bit, but with practice and perseverance you can achieve acceptable results. I make small pieces of hair and experiment with fill effects until I get what I want. Use the curve tool for the hair. Once you have drawn the shape remove the line. Back

40. Hair The colour I have used is two colours, light brown and dark brown and shaded from centre Stretch the hair shape as show below then copy and past a few of them to build the hair up. Once you are happy with the shape of the hair group the objects then place them on your subject Back

41. Hair All you need to do now is copy and paste the strands of hair and put them into place. Use the rotate function in the draw meny to flip verticle and horizontal Back

42. Hair We are nearly done, the subject just needs some highlights and shadows to finish it off. Once again just use oval, fill effects and transparency to do this Back

43. Finish • Now I know she isn’t perfect but it should give you a good idea of how to use shading and create the different sections for a facial drawing • Good luck and have fun Back
