  3. Physics event _ e+e-tt

  4. Typical final states

  5. High granularity calorimeter Hcal Ecal Hcal Ecal

  6. Detector slab and ASU Old generation (as installed in the actual CALICE prototype) New generation Active Sensor Units(silicon wafer on PCB) Very front end chip inside the detector

  7. Very Front End and ReadOut Acquisition Read-out RAQ Front-end Detector ADC Wafer • Granularity ≈35 M channels • high integration level • low consumption < 5mW / channel • X-bunching 150 ns • large dynamics 15 bits performed w/ LAL Y. Gao & P. Gay FEE for ILC Calorimeter Development FCPPL 17-01-2008 @CPPM

  8. PC ASUDAQ ASU-DAQ for ECAL Active Sensor Unit USB • Features • full slow control including internal probing system control • access to analog test points (embedded ADC) • read out of the Very FRont End trought USB & PC • mechanical jaw providing damageless contacts to Active Sensor Unit Y. Gao & P. Gay FEE for ILC Calorimeter Development FCPPL 17-01-2008 @CPPM

  9. ADC USB CCC interface ethernet PC Event builder ASUDAQ for ECAL prototype schematics • Generic connectors waiting for final specifications : use of adaptor mezzanines • Large number of I/O for flexibility • Various I/O format : LVDS, LVCMOS, NIM, Analog (10b, 40 MHz, ADC included) • USB for slow control and read-out • Connector for options : LDAitf, ethernet, debug, … data probe data slow control Y. Gao & P. Gay FEE for ILC Calorimeter Development FCPPL 17-01-2008 @CPPM

  10. PC PC ASU ASU ASU ASUDAQ ASUDAQ ASUDAQ for ECAL usage μ Cosmic ray test bench Hodoscope (trigger) … Adapter board Damageless contact to ASU jaw jaw TRIG Expansion to few ASU Control and read-out CLK Next version will provide an higher automation level Dedicated software Y. Gao & P. Gay FEE for ILC Calorimeter Development FCPPL 17-01-2008 @CPPM

  11. Dedicated PC DebugRAQ InSituDebugRAQconcept • On beam simplified RAQ • devoted to monitor and debug • a few Very Frot End chips • accurate diagnostic of unexpected behavior • monitoring (internal probes) • maintenance • Can run alone, eventually with no beam • compatible with machine interface • or specific trigger and timing • Dedicated Software to ease • debugging Standard DAQ Special link Simultaneous DAQ operations allowed Y. Gao & P. Gay FEE for ILC Calorimeter Development FCPPL 17-01-2008 @CPPM

  12. Cooperation between LPC-Clermont & Tsinghua Univ.Expertise • LPC-Clermont - 10 bits ADC already realized - Support from electronics team - Involves in CALICE Collaboration - RAQ is starting on prototype schematics • Tsinghua Univ. - LHCb DAQ and commission - Trigger system for DaYaBay Experiment Y. Gao & P. Gay FEE for ILC Calorimeter Development FCPPL 17-01-2008 @CPPM

  13. Conclusion • Front-End-Electronics is crucial and very challenging for ILC Calorimeter development • LPC-Clermont & Tsinghua Univ. would like to team up under FCPPL support to work on the R&D of FEE for ILC Calorimeter. Thank You !
