Working Group D - Next Steps for Water Information System for Europe (WISE)

This report provides an overview of the next steps for the Strategic Coordination Group in relation to the implementation of the Water Information System for Europe (WISE). It includes updates on the implementation of reporting guidance, establishment of the WISE Technical Group, and progress on the State of Environment (SoE) reporting.

  1. Strategic Coordination Group 15/16 May 2006 Item 8 d – Working Group D Reporting and Water Information System for Europe (WISE)

  2. WG D – next steps • Last meeting in March discussed all parts of work programme • Implement 2007 reporting guidance, first templates to be distributed to GIS activity 1 group in June. Testing in Sept/Oct. • Start discussion on 2010 RBMP guidance in compliance group – July (focus: PoM and env. obj.) • First draft of 2010 guidance in Oct. 2006

WISE – next steps • MS to submit Art 5 data • Review/update process for Art 3 data later in 2006, MS will be contacted by consultant • Prepare public launch • Establishment of WISE Technical Group led by EEA • Work on WISE Implementation Plan has started • Art. 8 data submission only through WISE – development of rules and procedures document needed

SoE – state-of-play • SoE group met on 8 March • Task 1 and 2 documents discussed and finalised • Task 3 results in reporting sheets for SoE reporting (updating former Eurowaternet guidelines) in progress • Discussion on ”selection of representative monitoring stations for SoE reporting” • Presentation of BE on analysis of reporting across water legislation

SoE – next steps • Finalisation of SoE reporting sheets • Completion of task 1 and 2 documents • Agree on criteria to select representative monitoring for SoE • Possible extension BE analysis in the framework of review of SoE reporting • Final draft of documents to be presented to WG D and SCG in Oct/Nov.

  6. GIS – next steps • GIS – coding document to be finalised…interaction with MS on feasibility of applying the proposal • Start developing WISE GIS guidance (complementing GIS guidance) – outline agreed, work initiated • CCM2 completion – invitation to join verification process • Discussion on added value of GIS group (mixed messages from MS experts re. CCM2 (use of MS data), coding…constructive working process?)

  7. Next meetings • 29 June – SoE Drafting Group • 6 July – Compliance Drafting Group • 17/18 October – WG D • 23 Nov – GIS Workshop (tbc)
