  2. What is Palala Clubs? - Founded in 2007 by Peace Corps Volunteer Rachel Johnson (South Africa 2006-2008), and two primary school teachers, Maam Tema and Maam Ditsela, it is a six month after school program for 6th and 7th grade girls to teach gender specific life-skills, HIV/AIDS education, and a weekly activity or craft that the girls may use in the future as an income generating activity.

  3. Our Mission - Is to create a safe environment where young boys and girls can learn valuable life lessons and skills with a focus on the awareness and prevention of HIV/AIDS.

  4. Fundamentals of the program • Local community members are sought out to be Palala Club leaders. They are encouraging, knowledgeable, and dedicated to making a difference in the girls lives. • Meetings take place once a week after school on the school grounds. - Specific program structure is followed, to ensure that both leaders and the girls have something reliable and stable in their lives.

Palala Clubs started sewing and selling aprons, using traditional South African fabrics. Each apron is distributed in a matching bag, and is being sold for R100. Profits from the aprons sales are given back to the leader who sewed the apron, and Palala Clubs. The initial start up materials were purchased
