  1. War in the South- Charles Town- Doing what they do best- Washington sends his best- Greene using his advantage Yorktown-

  2. Ch. 7 Section 3 notes • War in the South- British believe that more Southerners are loyalist and that they will have an easier time controlling the South. British also believe that they will get slave help with the offer of freedom for all slaves who leave their masters and join the British Army. Whoops they were wrong • Charles Town- Clinton and British forces trap the American Southern army in Charles Town. The Americans are forced to surrender . • Doing what they do best- As in the North the colonial armies have a hard time going toe to toe with the British Army. So those not in the formal .Continental Army revert to the fighting style they have used against the Native Americans, we would call this guerilla fighting. Best in the South is a man named Frances Marion the “Swamp Fox” • Washington sends his best- Washington sends one of his best generals Nathanael Greene to take over the Army of the South. Wins a “European” style battle at Cowpens big victory in the South • Greene up for- Greene wants to wear down the much larger British army. To Do this Greene uses the knowledge of the land to keep ahead of the British and only attacked on ground that favored the American Army . • Yorktown- Gen. Cornwallis sets his base up in Yorktown. Washington along with the French Army and Navy block Cornwallis. The British can not be resupplied or get their army out. After continuous shelling by the Armies the British surrender. This would be the last major battle of the war
