  5. Institutions covered under MDM Central Share Note:- 1. Three Primary school have been upgraded as Upper Primary school 2. One secondary school upgraded to Sr. Secondary School attaching UP classes to a Primary school.

  6. Island wise distribution of Schools under U.T Administration- Covered under MDM Scheme Note:- GSSS,Kalpeni and Kadmat do not have Primary & Upper Primary Classes

  7. Salient features of the Mid Day Meal Scheme in schools • Mid day meal scheme extended from Pre-primary to Senior Secondary Level under State Share and Primary to Upper Primary under Central Share. • Hot Cooked meal is served to all school going children • MDM scheme is implemented through District Panchayat • Food items are procured from the Co-operative societies on credit basis. • Panchayatmemebers, SMC/MPTA over see the scheme in each island. • Constituted U.T Level/District Level/Island level Steering cum Monitoring Committees. • Under School Health Programme,: • 1. Health Card issued to all school going children, • 2. De-worming and iron & folic acid tablets are distributed with help of Health Department. • 3. Programme to check refractive and tracking of Hepatitis-B in children is in progress.

  16. Difficulties in implementation • 1. Delayed receipt of sanction orders and LOA from the Ministry delays the release of central share to the implementing agency. • Non availability of better communication facilities in islands delay timely data flow to the MIS data base.

  17. Grievance Redressal Mechanism • UT Level and Island Level Grievance Cell have been constituted in Lakshadweep. • 2. The Director of Education is the UT/District Level Redressal Officer. • 3. The Principals of Sr.Sec.School in the island are Island level Redressal Officers. • 4. Installation of Toll Free Telephone in Grievance Redressal Cell is pending with BSNL, Kavaratti.

MME Proposal 2013-14 • Strengthening of existing Management Monitoring and Evaluation mechanism with one Project Manager(MDM) and One MIS coordinator on contract basis in the State level. •  Capacity building & training to staff involved in MDM scheme •  Purchase of required computer hardware’s and accessories • Purchase of furniture, soap, stationeries etc • Purchase and installation of one steam boiler in MDM kitchen on experimental basis

  21. ACHIEVEMENTS 2012-13 • Mid-Day Meal supplied to all school going children from Pre-Primary to XII standard. • 2. Dropouts reported during 2012-13 = Nil • 3. 100% screening of school children to assess the refractive errors completed. • 4. Provided training to CCH on Health & Hygiene • 5. 100% data entry in MIS software has been completed • 6. No grievances registered on implementation of MDM so far • 7. Completed display of MDM logo in MDM kitchen attached schools. • 8. Mainstreaming hand washing before and after MDM, required fund for purchase of soap have been released to schools.

Proposal for 2013-14 • Strengthen the internal/external evaluation of the MDM scheme • Procurement of one steam boiler to MDM Kitchen on experimental basis • Training to Cook Cum Helpers(CCH) with help of Lakshadweep • Tourism Dept.(SPORTS) • Screening of refractive errors and hepatitis B in schools • Ensure effective implementation of SHP in schools. • Ensure Health and Hygiene in all schools • Maintenance of toilet with sufficient running water, cleaning liquid etc.
