National Initiative Background • High un-employment for Gulf War II Veterans • High amount of un-employment benefits being paid by Department of Defense • 140 Billion vs. 936 Million plus • Over 50% of all un-employed veterans come from three specific occupational fields • Transportation • Medical • Combat Arms

  3. Documents to Consider • DD-214 • Certificate of Eligibility (GI Bill benefits) • Disability Award Letter • Military Transcript

  4. Senate Bill 1863 • Requires us to evaluate prior training and experience • Allows us to use the Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services • Requires local tech center boards to adopt rules and procedures beginning with AY13-14

  12. How do I decipher transcripts? • Transcripts generally are very basic and to save space do not include all necessary information • Information you may need from transcript: • Course Number • Length • Dates • Outcomes • Instruction • Credit Recommendation • Demo

  13. Challenges of the “Fast-Track” Process • All technology centers are different • Service members generally want something different • Service members may not want to be “Fast Tracked” • Why? • Benefits?
