  1. How We Got Started With 7 Mindsets… Brittany Bruce, Teacher Jackie McDonnell, School Counselor Norton Middle School

  2. SOOO, WHAT EXACTLY IS IT? • It is a growth mindset program that is ‘pre-packaged’ for use in schools. • There are 3 different levels of curriculum: Elementary, Middle and High School

  3. How did we get started on this journey? • Well, it started when a few members of our staff saw a “7 Mindsets” presentation at the AMLE Conference last October…

  4. Those same teachers started discussing how this program would fit in well with our existing “Life Matters” program… • History of “Life Matters”: • Monthly lessons dealing with social/emotional topics, drug awareness, etc. • Created by school counselor, teachers, interns, etc. • Lessons involved stories, video clips, discussion, etc. WWW.7MINDSETS.COM

  5. We created a steering committee made up of a representative from each grade level, SPED and related arts A N D… T H E N • We discussed whether this program would work building wide and if we could get staff buy-in WWW.7MINDSETS.COM

  6. The steering committee discussed the the program with their respective teams; we reconvened and… Decided to go forward with bringing 7 Mindsets to our building. We purchased 3 years of access to the program… • WWW.7MINDSETS.COM

  7. 3 staff members traveled to Atlanta, GA in July to attend the 7 Mindsets Academy for introductory training. We held a conference call with the 7 Mindsets folks to discuss how their program could work in our school. Jeff Waller came on convocation day and did a 3 hour training with our full staff. • WWW.7MINDSETS.COM

  8. Jeff Waller (President), Scott Shickler (CEO) and Duane Moyer (Director of training) were fantastic to work with! • They talked us through creating log-ins, navigating their website and getting trainings lined up. • Teams met to decide when each week would be best to implement a 45 minute lesson. • We bought folders for each student and copied journal entries to go in them.

  9. HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK? • There are 3 modules on their website to choose from: Elementary, Middle and HS • Each of them has 3 years of programming (we are starting with MS Course 1 for Gr 6-8 and Elem Course 1 for Gr 5) • Each of the 7 Mindsets has 4 lessons • Their website also has tons of resources! • There is also an "Educator Life Plan" for YOU  • WWW.7MINDSETS.COM

  10. SOOOO, We bet you are thinking… Great, but tell us MORE about the the specific program!! O.K.– Here Goes! WWW.7MINDSETS.COM

  11. ACTIVITY/ STRETCH BREAK! (Leadership Zone Educator Life Plan Activity 1)

  12. The 7 Mindsets are based on a three year research effort that began with the simple question: • What do the world’s happiest and most successful people have in common? • They studied the happiest and most successful people who’ve ever lived. They reviewed studies on personal achievement and interviewed over 400 of the most successful men and women of the 20th and 21st centuries. WWW.7MINDSETS.COM

  13. Their research revealed that the answer isn’t related to gender, ethnicity, or where they lived in the world. • It had nothing to do with being raised in a loving home or not. • It didn’t matter if their families were rich, middle class, or impoverished. • It wasn’t even connected to how far they advanced in school or the skills they acquired along the way. • In fact, it turns out that the biggest predictor of happiness and success are based on HOW the world’s most successful people THINK. WWW.7MINDSETS.COM

  14. What emerged from their research was a set of seven mental habits foundational to an enriched life. • The 7 Mindsets are a comprehensive blueprint for happiness, meaning, and success, written in simple, powerful language to teach and activate success strategies for people to live the lives of their dreams. 15. THE 7 MINDSETS: • 1. Everything is Possible • 2. Passion First • 3. We Are Connected • 4. 100% Accountable • 5. Attitude of Gratitude • 6. Live To Give • 7. The Time is Now

  16. 1. EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE: • Everything is Possible teaches us that we are all capable of living extraordinary lives. • We learn that everything in existence was once just an idea, until someone believed it was possible and turned it into a reality. • Embracing this fact allows one to envision a wonderful life, expect greatness, and effectively execute the process of making dreams come true.

  17. 2. PASSION FIRST: • Passion First tells us that we are each a unique expression of human life, and that our lives should be focused on finding our unique genius and sharing it with the world to the maximum extent possible. • You will learn to make your dreams authentic, and of such critical importance that you’ll find the fuel to overcome any obstacles you face on the way to achieving them.

  18. 3. WE ARE CONNECTED: • We Are Connected helps us understand that everyone who comes into our lives can help us live our dreams. • Through this mindset, we learn to constantly explore synergies with others, embrace diversity, and relish the competition that will allow us to maximize our potential with and through others.

  19. 4. 100% ACCOUNTABLE: • 100% Accountable teaches us that we are not victims of our past, that our futures are not predetermined, and that our lives are what we choose them to be at this moment and each moment forward. • With a focus on recognizing fears and excuses, this mindset helps us to break down barriers, freeing our minds and focusing our energy on taking critical steps toward our goals.

  20. 5. ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE: • Attitude of Gratitude teaches us that we build our lives on either positive or negative foundations. • Choose the positives, and you are on your way toward extraordinary success. • Choose the negatives, and you will likely start on a downward spiral.

  21. 6. LIVE TO GIVE: • Live to Give describes how abundance in one’s life is a cycle. • To receive love, respect, and financial security, one must first learn to give those things. • This mindset also teaches that the greatest gift you can ever give is finding and leveraging your unique genius to maximize your positive impact on the world, knowing that good things will be returned to you in kind.

  22. 7. THE TIME IS NOW: • The Time is Now teaches that all your power exists in the moment. • You cannot change the past and the future has not happened, so the only thing to do is take purposeful action in the present to create the ultimate life of your dreams.
