School Business Community Partnership Broker Program • Nationally funded by DEEWR across 107 regions • Sits with one of Council of Australian Governments (COAG) goals: • - to lift Yr 12 or equivalent attainment rate to 90 % by 2015 and improve education outcomes for those experiencing high levels of disadvantage • A National Partnership on Youth Attainment and Transitions focused on: • Participation • Engagement • Attainment • Transitions • For more information go to DEEWR website: • http://www.deewr.gov.au/youth/YouthAttainmentandTransitions/Pages/Home.aspx

What do Partnership Brokers do? • facilitate stakeholder engagement, build community capacity and infrastructure .....to improve education and transition outcomes for all young people • broker sustainable, strategic partnerships between and among key stakeholders to improve education and transition outcomes and support young people to remain engaged, or re-engaged in education or training • stakeholders decide how to improve the education and transition outcomes of the young people in their region. The Partnership Broker will help the stakeholders to engage, commit and own the partnership

How does the PB program and the DETE Quality Pathways program intersect? • The Quality Pathways Project’s charter is to maximise access to personalised, quality career information and relevant career pathways for all students. • The projects focus is on four main activity areas: • Industry / Employer / School Connectivity • Communication Networks • Building Capacity • Targeted Student programs

Internationally …. • British Telecom: “Work Experience to Work Inspiration” • http://www.workinspiration.com/ • Big business/employer partnering with smaller businesses and schools to improve work experience for school students. • Work Inspiration Program based on: • Insight 1: All About Me • Insight 2: Look Behind the Scenes • Insight 3: Careers Happen

WorkshopPartnership Scenarios • In groups, choose one of these scenarios and develop a strategy to form a partnership in your school. • The Next Step data has revealed limited success for students transitioning into work or further study. Many students continue with their part time jobs but six months after graduation are still unsure of their career direction. • Your school has a Yr 10 work experience program but, apart from SATs, limited connection with industry for placements in Yr 11 & 12. Considering the Work Inspiration model, how can you develop this program to assist Yr 11 & 12s with career transitions. • Your school would like to involve parents, industry and community in the schools career education program for the Junior School. Come up with a partnership to address this.
