A great deal of thought should go into the placement of your backyard aquaponics garden.  You need to have a place that provides at least six hours of sunlight, you need to have a water source; easy access between the garden and your kitchen, electrical power and the place needs to be warmed. You also want to position it so that exhaust fans are facing away from your home. The best place to put an aquaponics garden is right next to your house, ideally along a south wall, or inside a greenhouse. There are a few advantages. The first is that the equipment will have access to water and electricity. Placing it up against the house helps to heat the house and provides a structure that is considered to be carbon negative.

  3. When you are scouting a place, you want to consider a few things. The first thing is the amount of space you are going to need. How much are you going to grow and how close do you want it to your home? While one of the ideal places is a south wall, it may not be possible to place the garden right next to the house. There may simply be too little room for the size you want to have. An aquaponics garden is going to need a steady flow of water and electricity. You want to make sure these things are available without having to worry about having unsightly hoses and wires running through your lawn.  This is another reason why it is a good idea to place a fish and plant garden near your home.

The area that you choose also needs to be in an area that receives enough sunlight. You also need to locate it in an area that receives at least six hours of sunlight every day. If you consider all the various options that you need, such as light, electricity, water, and a large enough space, there are usually only a few areas that provide this kind of location.
