CPC and IPC schemes (IT aspects) • Similarly structured classification systems • CPC available in English, in multiple XML files, and PDF formats • IPC available in English and French, in a single XML master file • The format of the XML files is different • comparison of texts is difficult but necessary marks are given in CPC • not obvious to convert them in either directions • presentation on a common platform may be difficult without harmonization

  3. Uses of a common platform • Information retrieval • using concordance • Support of IPC revision work (harmonization) Feasibility of conversion of CPC to IPC scheme master file-like XML is checked, as proof of concept, for supporting both uses.

  4. The conversion • A DTD, similar to IPC master file DTD is created • containing a limited set of new elements (<5) and attributes (<5) • Developed as a custom application • Produced a set of comments • Concordance converted and 2…/… codes added as extension of the concordance

  5. The viewer • A simple four-pane presentation provided • IPC | concordance | CPC • FI (just as an on-the-fly retrieval by URL) • Parallel browsing with synchronization • moving in one window also moves the other • clicking on text synchronizes the other window • Marking concordance and differences

  8. Support of revision work • Feasiblity of conversion of CPC scheme parts is checked • Annex XML format, uploadable to RIPCIS is created • Microsoft Word file created, uploadable to the e-forum
