  2. STARTING OUR BUSINESS To start our business we got into small groups and thought of ideas. Each group made a web of all our ideas and picked our best idea. Then we had to choose which of our final ideas would become our business.

  3. Our Decision To decide our business idea we held a dragons den. To help with our decision, we brought in a local business person, Garbhan Kavanagh, to our school. He along with Mr. Hussey and Mrs. Murphy were our dragons.

  4. Our final ideas: • Something Sweet • Easy Sweet Cakes • Pur€ Irish Sales • Fire Starter • Money Muncher • Toyz • Green Sneem • Bag Bling

  5. Our Winner After a tough decision by all the dragons, “Something Sweet” won. We got straight down to business the day after the decision was made.

  18. Least Favourite Sweets:

  19. Deciding Our Roles In The Business After the survey, we decided our roles to help the business. To decide which role we would have in the business we split in to groups such as Finance, Sales, Marketing, Public Relations and design + production. We split into groups according to what we are good at.

  20. Our JEP Project Team!

  21. Getting The Business On The Move 1 2 After receiving our roles we got straight down to business. We ordered three bag prototypes and started production. 3 Our chosen bag!

  22. Production • We started making our sweets in March.

  23. Making lemon and peppermint creams!

  24. Working Hard!

  25. Costing the product!

  26. Marketing the product! • We came up with a great logo for “Something Sweet”. We used this logo on our stand, bags and posters.

  27. Selling Our Product! • We first sold our product at our showcase in our school. We planned for it to coincide with the middle room’s science show…More hungry parents!

  28. Profit or loss? • We used the showcase as a chance to see if “Something Sweet” was a good business that could make a profit. • We made a profit on our first day, so it was full steam ahead for our business 

  29. Selling We worked over the Easter holiday to sell our product. We brought our sweets to the South Square in Sneem. Tourist buses stop here. We sold out within half an hour!

  30. More Sales!!! • We made a third batch of “Something Sweet”. • Again we set up in the South Square and sold all of our product  • On our last sale we sold 41 bags for €3 each. We made €123 euro in 1 hour! • We are very happy that “Something Sweet” was a success. • We even had repeat customers!

  31. Our final thoughts: • Our teacher asked our class did we think the JEP experience was worthwhile. 100% of us said YES!!! • The main things our classmates liked were: making the sweets, selling the sweets in town and making money! • We would love to work in a business like “Something Sweet” when we are older. • We learned how having your own business can be great – Garbhan and Zigi were good people to meet. They love their businesses.

  32. Goodbye! • Well goodbye JEP from the “Something Sweet” storytelling team, Seán, Liam, Niamh and Dylan V.D!
