  2. WELCOME!! • YOU are your child’s first teacher! • Thank you for being an important part of your child’s learning experience. • We are a team! We are truly a dedicated partner in your child’s educational journey. • Thank you for taking the time to be here tonight!

  3. DJ CARES! • We have a very supportive administration here at DJ Montague. • Our team, including learning, math and reading specialists, work tirelessly day after day to ensure each child’s continued growth in a safe, caring, learning place.

  4. STANDARds of learning? • What are these Standards of Learning? • What are the “SOL’s”? • Test covers curriculum learned K-3 • Why do we take these assessments? • Overview of Elementary SOL’s.

  5. Tentative Testing schedule • Students are tested in Reading, Math, Science and History (Social Studies) • 3rd grade tests for 6 days • Reading: May 13-14 (two days) • Math: May 20, 21 (two days) • History: May 23 • Science: May 27

What are we doing to help your child prepare? • Testing strategies that will last a lifetime • Weekly THUNKS in all 4 testing areas • Review of recently released, previously administered SOL with updated standards. • Quarterly benchmark assessments & review • Manipulation of computerized benchmark practice tests • Virginia DOE website

  10. What can you do to help your child? • Discuss this assessment in a positive manner. • Be encouraging! Your child CAN do it! • Review study guides, tests and THUNKS. • Use our “Language” • Read Twice! • Find the evidence! • Show your work! • Slash the Trash!

  11. What can you do the day of testing? • Keep activities to a minimum. • Encourage a good night’s sleep. • Give your child a good, hearty brain-happy breakfast. • Continue the positive talk. Let your child know you believe in him/her!
