  1. How do you know if you are moving? • Motion is relative. • Motion is defined as an object that is changing it's distance from another object.

  2. What is a reference point? A place or object used for comparison to determine if something is in motion. An object is in motion if it changes position relative to a reference point.

  3. Measuring Distance SI unit for measurement: Distance = Meters Time = Seconds Speed = Meters/Second

  4. Speed Calculation

  5. Based on the video: Distance was 100m,  Time:     Started sliding at 8s, landed at 14seconds     14 - 8 = 6 seconds What is his speed?

  6. Using the Formula Speed = Distance / time Speed = 100m / 6 s =

  7. Answer 16.6 Label your answer!

  8. A harder question still Calculate the Distance the boy travels if his speed is 2 meters per second and in 3 seconds.

  9. How to Label Meters / Seconds = m/s Also known as Meters per second

  10. A harder question still Calculate the Distance the boy travels if his speed is 2 meters per second and in 3 seconds. Formula is Speed times Time

  11. Answer 2 meters/second times 3 seconds 2 x 3 = 6 What to label it?

  12. 6 METERS Calculate the Distance the boy travels if his speed is 2 meters per second and in 3 seconds.

  13. Graphing motion You can show the motion of an object on a line graph in which you plot distance versus time. Y axis = distance (position) X axis = time At any point in time you can note the distance and time an object has traveled. SLOPE = steepness of line How fast one variable changes in realtionship to another.

  14. Slope = rise / run Same as distance / time Different slopes show changes in speed. Slope

  15. Speed and Velocity
