  2. SCHOOL’S CORE PRINCIPLES We believe … The classroom should be an environment in which students feel safe, challenged and happy. The best way to promote social and academic learning is through positive reinforcement. Children do best with predictable rituals and routines. It takes a village to raise and teach a child.

  3. SCHOOL WIDE EXPECTATIONS Respect-Walk at all times. Keep hands, feet and materials to yourself. Keep hallways and stairwells clear. Treat other people and their things the same way you would want to be treated. Effort- Always do your best. Attitude – Be cooperative, be polite and be kind. Listen the first time. Citizenship-Care about yourself and others. Do what you know is right and make good choices even when nobody is watching. Honesty-Do not cheat, lie or steal.

  4. HOW WE SHOW & LEARN RESPECT As a class we will create a RESPECT board. Each student will have a flower with their idea of respect. Each flower will have a different rule/idea.

  5. HOW WE REACH FOR SUCCESS We are very excited about participating in the “Reach for the Success” initiative! Reach for Success is a school-wide Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) program that encourages positive behaviors. Students have the opportunity to receive rewards by demonstrating expected behaviors. At school, we teach the expectations and as students are “caught reaching for success” by the staff at school, they’ll be able to punch stars into their “Reach” cards which are kept in their classroom. When they gain 25 or more stars, they’ll be eligible to choose from many reward choices. Examples include: extra recess, eat lunch with a friend, earning prizes ( water bottle, pen and extra P.E. time). As a class we will have R.E.A.C.H. expectations that go hand in hand with the school’s PBS. The students will learn and display R.E.A.C.H. behaviors in the classroom. Each area of REACH will be modeled and reinforced by myself and the other teachers and administrators within the school. In addition to students receiving recognition through the REACH cards program, we will as a class have rewards for R.E.A.C.H behavior.

  6. HOW WE SHOW & LEARN EFFORT Smarty Pants - The pants are sewn shut and have Smarties candy inside them. When one of my kiddos says or does something smart or has an"outside the box" idea I will say, "You're such a smarty pants" and they will go get 1 Smarties candy out of the pants.

  7. HOW WE SHOW AND LEARN GOOD ATTITUDE Brownie Points is our class reward system. When the class gets a compliment from someone other than myself for good attitude they will earn a brownie for their pan. When the pan gets full of brownies the class gets a special treat. We show good attitude by being polite, cooperative and not arguing when we are corrected. We own our behavior!

  8. HOW WE SHOW & LEARN Citizenship As I see students showing good citizenship by being kind, helping each other, cleaning up without being asked they will get a piece of paper and a pompom (warm fuzzy) to put in our Warm Fuzzy Jar!  When the jar is full we will have a class party! The only stipulation is that everyone in the class has to have contributed a Warm Fuzzy in order for us to have the party!

  9. HOW WE SHOW & LEARN HONESTY Do your own work. Tell the Truth Do not take things that are not yours. Always do what is right even if nobody is looking.

  10. DISCIPLINE Ready, Set, Go! • 1st offense – verbal warning • 2nd offense – move to a yellow paper • 3rd offense – move to the red paper – Call Home is made

  11. School Procedures For Acknowledging Expected Behavior R.E.A.C.H. recognitions are intended to publicly acknowledge those students who exceed school-wide expectations on a regular basis. - Each teacher nominates one female and one male student. - Nominations are evaluated by PBS Team. - Two student per grade level are chosen, one female and one male. - Students receive tangible items.
