  1. The Cumulative Apologia: Curriculum Integration & Program Evaluation

  2. How do we know that... • Students are graduating with a fully synthesized education? • Faculty are helping students meet the published learning outcomes of the program?

  3. ap·o·lo·gi·a ▪ apƏ’lōj(ē)Ə AFORMAL WRITTEN DEFENSE OF ONE'S OPINIONS OR CONDUCT

  4. From the AA6900 Syllabus: • The Apologia allows the AA Graduation Committee to assess the progress, experiences, and growth of the student during the course of the degree program. Housed in a Google Drive folder, this cumulative portfolio with accompanying narrative will serve as the discussion platform of the defense interview and must be completed two weeks before said interview. The Apologia should reflect and synthesize the Learning Outcomes of the course and program, and contain[1] a Resume, [2] all Course & Project Deliverables, [3] the Degree Defense Narrative, and [4] the student's Leadership Philosophy.

  5. Benefits of the Apologia • Gives students the 'big picture' of the program & how classes relate to one another • Imbeds aself-reflection component into several courses • Assists the facultywith the End-of-Semester & Mid-Program reviews • Forced the faculty to reverse-engineer the program learning outcomes & goals

  6. Problems with the Apologia • There has been difficulty intergrading it into each course, but that will come with time • The addition of grading the narrative beyond faculty load • Student: “Great… one more thing to do.”

  7. The Cumulative Apologia: Questions?
