  2. BIOGRAPHY • Emily was born on December 10, 1830 • In Amherst, Massachusetts • She studied at Amherst Academy and Mount Holyoke Female Seminary • Most of her poem was published in her life time • She died may 15,1886

  3. Why Is Emily Poetry Significant? • Because of her unusual life • self imposed social seclusion. • Lived a life of simplicity • her different lifestyle created an aura; often romanticized • She question the nature of immortality and death

  4. Water, is taught by thirst Emily Dickinson

  5. Structure • There is only six lines in this one stanza poem • In this poem every lines first word has something to do with it other - Water to land • Peace to love

  6. Language • Alliteration- by memorial mold • Vocabulary • Transport: ecstasy; rapture • Throe: spasm or pang of pain • Memorial Mold: memorial grounds or cemetery

  7. Theme • Is you have to go through something to get somewhere • It may seem hard but it will work out in the end
