The Gospel according to St. Mark • The Gospel: Eυαγγελιον 1.It is the good news for the whole world: Mark 14:9 “Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her." 2. It is for all Nations without exception: Mark 13:10 “And the gospel must first be preached to all the nations.” 3. The message of Salvation: Mark 8:35-36 “For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's will save it. “ 4. A call to let go of everything: Mark 10:29-31 “29 So Jesus answered and said, "Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel's, 30 who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time--houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions--and in the age to come, eternal life. 31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first." 5. A call for Repentance and Faith: Mark 1:15 “15 and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel." 6.   2. His Name • Mark 1:1 “The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.” Jesus = His Human Name [Incarnation} Christ = Messiah = His Title Means the savior The Son of God= His Divinity God Incarnate for our Salvation

The forerunner • Mark 1:2 • "Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, • Who will prepare Your way before You." • Mal 3:1 • "Behold, I send My messenger, And he will prepare the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, Will suddenly come to His temple, Even the Messenger of the covenant, In whom you delight. Behold, He is coming,“ Says the LORD of hosts.

  4. The Lion • Isa 40:3 • 3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness: • "Prepare the way of the LORD; • Make straight in the desert A highway for our God. • Mark 15:36-38 • 37 And Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and breathed His last.

  5. The Lion • He reveal Christ a strong as a Lion, His authority through his Words and his actions. • The person of Christ not historical but to live him “I am the Door, the Way the Life”

  6. John & Elijah • John the Baptist came to prepare the way before Christ. • Mal 4:5-6 • 5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet Before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD. And he will turn The hearts of the fathers to the children, And the hearts of the children to their fathers, Lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.“ • The ritual of baptism was done for the gentile who convert to Judaism • Luke 7:30 • 30 But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the will of God for themselves, not having been baptized by him.

Baptism of Jesus • Why did Jesus got baptized? • John Declared that Jesus is • Mark 1:7 • “One after me who is mightier than I” • Mark 1:8 • He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit He took our nature and represented us in every thing, He was baptize, washed, confess and repent instead of me and for me.

  8. the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove • Mark 1:10 • 10 And immediately, coming up from the water, He saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove. • And immediately is mentioned 41 times in the Gospel • John 3:2-6 • 3 Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." 4 Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?" 5 Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Wild Beasts and Angles • Mark 1:13 • and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to Him • Isa 11:6-9 • 6 "The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, • The leopard shall lie down with the young goat, • The calf and the young lion and the fatling together; • And a little child shall lead them. • 7 The cow and the bear shall graze; • Their young ones shall lie down together; • And the lion shall eat straw like the ox. • 8 The nursing child shall play by the cobra's hole, • And the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper's den. • 9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, • For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD • As the waters cover the sea.

  11. preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God • The Good news is the Kingdom of God • Kingdom mentioned 20 times • The Gospel of Truth, Hope, peace and Love. • The good news contain God’s promises and his gifts. • Faith, confession, Baptism and communion are the only ways to God’s Kingdom

Repentance • First confess your self: • Luke 15:17 ”when he came to himself” • Second: Confess to your brother: • Matt 5:23-25 • 23 Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. 25 Agree wit • Third: Confess to God: • James 5:14-16 • 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much

  13. "Come after Me, and I will make you become fishers of men” • Simon= To hear • Andrew= Maturity • James= Strive • John= Compassion • Luke 5:7-11 • 8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!" 9 For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish which they had taken; 10 and so also were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch men." 11 So when they had brought their boats to land, they forsook all and followed Him. • Mark 1:20 • they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went after Him.

  14. “His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.” • Teaching of Christ takes a large portion of the Gospel (17 times) • Scribes were responsible of intrepid the old testament and transform God’s commandment to laws and orders. • Authority: • Heb 4:12 • 12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

  15. unclean spirit • Repeated 11 times. • The weakness of humanity gave the authority of unclean spirit to posses the mind, the well, the soul and the body. • The spirit of lust, anger, boredom, sadness.. • Mark 1:25 • "Be quiet, and come out of him! • God granted his holy people to cast out demon by his Name

  16. Simon’s Mother in law • Faith: • Mark 1:30 • they told Him about her at once • Human nature was under the curse of death. • Christ does not heal only but gives life. • Christ carried our sins on the cross in his flesh and buried it , He raised us through his resurrection from the dead. • Isa 53:4-6 • 4 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; • We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

  17. He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed. • He intercede for us before the Father. • Ministry to late hour of the day must be followed by prayers to present to God the Father our life, ministry and whom we serve. • Prayers is the mystical fountain which grant our ministry , teaching and all our actions its power and achievement. • “let be your will not mine” • “ Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight” • Before we start our day we must stand before God • Solitary Place: • Matt 6:6 • 6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place

  18. The Leper • Lev 13:44-46 • 44 he is a leprous man. He is unclean. The priest shall surely pronounce him unclean; his sore is on his head. 45 Now the leper on whom the sore is, his clothes shall be torn and his head bare; and he shall cover his mustache, and cry, 'Unclean! Unclean!' 46 "He shall be unclean. All the days he has the sore he shall be unclean. He is unclean, and he shall dwell alone; his dwelling shall be outside the camp.

  19. Faith and Humility saves • Mark 1:40 • "If You are willing, You can make me clean." • Isa 1:5-6 • The whole head is sick, And the whole heart faints. From the sole of the foot even to the head, There is no soundness in it, But wounds and bruises and putrefying sores; They have not been closed or bound up, Or soothed with ointment. • Isa 6:5-7 • Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The LORD of hosts." • 6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. 7 And he touched my mouth with it, and said: • "Behold, this has touched your lips; Your iniquity is taken away, • And your sin purged."

  20. Salvation • Faith , Humility = Compassion • Touch , Said = Healing • We receive salvation through hearing and believing the Word of God • Also through partaking of his Body and Blood
