  2. Jack London. • One theme that Jack London has throughout his stories is cruelty. • Jack London has written The Call of the Wild, Batard, and The Law of Life.

Atavism • Definition of Atavism: • In genetics, the reappearance of a characteristic not apparent in the immediately preceding generations. • Examples of Atavism: • The mutant chickens that had teeth because their ancestors, the dinosaurs had teeth but the chickens don't normally have teeth. • Batard had instincts and memories about his ancestors, and felt anger towards other people and wolves.

  4. Atavism Poem • Written by Elinor Wylie. • The poem is descriptive, but vague; you have to think about it to figure out the meaning and the purpose of the poem.
