  3. Decentralised Social and Medical Action Départements: • leader in matters of social aid • housing policy for the elderly and disabled persons • allocations in order to counterbalance handicap / loss of autonomy Municipalities: • social aid • optional social actions, e.g. homes for the elderly

The European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations in France Main issues • inclusion of (active) elderly people in international activities of the local authorities • stimulation of the dialogue between generations • active ageing and well ageing (independence) • housing • against the background of a mixed demographic evolution

  5. Best practice: A Franco-Polish partnership • Département of Bas-Rhine (General Council), F with the Voivodeship of Silesia (Upper Silesia), PL • since 2000 • key aspects: economy and tourism • initiatives for the purpose of knowledge-sharing, school and cultural exchanges

  6. Project in the matter of senior citizen policy (1) • initiated by the Regional Centre of Social Policies in Silesia in 2007 • project partner: association Social Without Frontiers • purpose: knowledge sharing in order to develop the local senior citizen policy, seniors as indirect target group

  7. Project in the matter of senior citizen policy (2) Dual approach: • exchange of best practices in caring for elderly/disabled people: study trips, colloquia • postgraduate education in gerontology: university cooperation, creation of the study course “Experts for the future in matter of gerontology” other activities

  8. Funding • no European Funding • General Council granted subventions in the amount of ca. 57 000 € (2007-2011)

  9. Project evaluation • about 50 participants (professionals of the social and care field; instructors; professionals of territorial social action; local representatives) • 2007-2011 • Output: creation of a study course in Silesia, creation of a Silesian branch of the French association “Social without Borders”

  10. Role model and potential for improvement • experts exchange • international and intergenerational solidarity • European programmes for funding
