  4. What is The Learning Commons(LC)? The LC is a place to: • borrow books • do research for projects • use the computers for various activities • collaborate in small and large groups • pleasure reading

  5. What does the LC have to offer? Fiction and Non-Fiction Books Manga and Graphic Novels Daily Newspapers

  6. Respectful Behaviour • Speak quietly while working together • No Food or Beverages are allowed • Please make sure to return all materials, equipment and furniture as you found them. (push chairs in, return borrowed pencils, etc…) • Respect any displays that have been set up.

  7. Study Carrels Quiet study only! It is important to be respectful of your peers trying to read or study for a test.

  8. How do I find a book? Books can be searched using the ELIBRARY machine. (tall computer station) Search by topic, author or keyword.

  9. How do I find a book? Fiction is shelved by the authors last name Non-fiction is based on the Dewey Decimal system.

  10. What are the LC rules of etiquette? In order to keep the Learning Commons working efficiently, it is necessary to have some rules in place.

  11. Re-shelving Books In order to keep the books organized on the shelves, we ask that you DO NOT re-shelve the books yourself. Please place all books to be re-shelved on the shelving carts at the end of the fiction and non-fiction stacks.

  12. Why come to the LC? Newspapers Computers Scanning and Colour Printing Photocopying School Supplies

  13. Book Sign Out Remember to return your books on time. • Books can be signed out using your student card. • You will be able to have the book for 2 weeks. You can check the due date at the back of the book. • Fines for overdue books are $0.10 per day.

  14. If you lose or damage a book, you are responsible for replacing it with an exact copy or paying towards the purchase of a new one.

  15. Returning books There are two ways to return your books: 1. Put the books in the drop box just inside the doors of the Learning Commons. 2. If the library door is locked, please put them carefully in the drop box outside the library door.

  16. How do I use the computers? Computers can be signed out using your student card. A clear library record is required. (No fines or overdue books)

  17. How do I use the computers? Computers are for educational purposes only. Games and downloading are not allowed. Please display your red computer card at the top of your monitor.

  18. How do I print? Printed work is sent to the photocopier. To add more money to your Printer Counter please pay at the circulation desk. A minimum of $1 is required. Remember it takes 24 hours to update!

  19. Printing • Black and white prints are 10 cents a page • Colour printing will also be available at $1 a page • Photocopying is also available for 10 cents a page

  20. More great things the LC has to offer Pencil Crayons and markers are available for sign-out with your student card. Glue, Bristol Board and other project materials are available for sale.
